Consumer price index (CPI) for December 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for December 2021 (103.07) rose by 1.00% year-on-year. The inflation rate for 2021 was 0.03%, down by 0.78 percentage points from 0.81% in 2020.


IFTM and Swiss Education Group join forces to offer Dual Recognition Programme

Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) continues to forge partnerships with world-renowned institutions and recently signed an agreement with Swiss Education Group (SEG), the largest hospitality management education consortium in Switzerland. IFTM and the group's two top 10 QS World University Ranking institutions will promote a mutual recognition programme that includes a "3+1" learning model; participating students will have the opportunity to receive a bachelor's degree from IFTM and a bachelor's degree from a Swiss university.

The year 2022 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym). The 2022 desk calendar under the theme of “Culture is integrated with life, every minute and second”, recently launched by IC, received enthusiastic responses and support from members of the public in promoting the beauty of culture and enhancing the aesthetics of life in Macao. In order to further encourage the public to disseminate and promote culture, and respond to the community’s support for cultural endeavours, IC specially made a reprint of desk calendars for the public. Selection will be made by random draw after registration. Residents can register through the online registration system from today (21 January) until 11:59pm on 24 January (Monday).


UM, CCCM co-launch new book Framework Teaching Portuguese as Foreign Language in China

The University of Macau (UM) and the Macau Scientific and Cultural Center (CCCM) in Lisbon jointly held an online event, simultaneously in Macao and in Lisbon, to launch a new book titled ‘Framework Teaching Portuguese as Foreign Language in China’, which attracted more than 100 participants. The book conducted a survey and study on adult Portuguese language learners whose mother tongue is Chinese, analysing their learning situation and the challenges they encounter, in order to give readers a better understanding of the current situation of Portuguese language teaching in China.


Local Contemporary Dance CCM Commissions New Creation

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents The Formidable Year, a newly commissioned piece created by a dynamic team of dancer-choreographers. The new work is set to be premiered at CCM’s Small Auditorium in two shows scheduled for 11 and 12 March (Friday and Saturday).

Cross-border teachers and students suspend returning to Macao for classes, schools can start Spring Festival holiday earlier, conditions permitting

With the continuous development of the epidemic situation in Zhuhai, the number of control areas increased yesterday. In order to cooperate on the epidemic prevention measures, after communicating with the health department, it is believed that further reducing cross-border teachers’ and students’ commute between Zhuhai and Macao will have a positive impact on reducing the risk of the epidemic and help with the overall epidemic prevention. Therefore, the DSEDJ announced that cross-border teachers and students of tertiary education institutions and non-tertiary education schools will not return to Macao for classes temporarily from January 21 (Friday) until the end of the Spring Festival holiday.

40% of Employers not yet Paid Contributions, FSS Reminds Employers and Residents to Make their Payments as Early as Possible

As of 19 January, about 10000 employers have not yet paid the obligatory system contributions for their employees to the Social Security System for the fourth quarter of 2021, accounting for about 40% of the total number of employers required to pay contributions. It is expected that the flow of people at the service points will increase towards the end of the month. In order to improve efficiency, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) calls on employers and residents to make more use of the electronic channels to pay contributions or to use the appointment service.
