MPI Holds Symposium on HR Development for Gaming and Macao Higher Education

To better understand and meet the market needs and cultivate the high-quality management talents for the gaming industry in Macao, The Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies (CJT) of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) held a symposium on “Human Resources Development of Gaming Enterprises and Higher Education in Macao” on May 13. The conference was convened in the form of online and offline participation. Chair Professor Cathy Hsu, School of Hotel and Tourism Management of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Professor Cui Geng, Department of Marketing and International Business of the Lingnan University, participated in the symposium and gave speeches through Zoom. Representatives from the six gaming companies, Director Professor Wang Changbin, Deputy Director Johnny Siu and the teaching staff of the CJT attended the symposium held on the Macao campus of MPI.


UM holds Sino-CPLP Symposium on Natural Products and Biodiversity Resources

The University of Macau (UM) and Shaanxi University of Technology recently held the International Conference on Medicinal and Food Plant Research and the Third Sino-Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) Symposium on Natural Products and Biodiversity Resources. As a hybrid multi-venue event that involved both virtual and in-person elements, the conference attracted over 300 scholars from around the world.


Registrations for short video competition “hush! 300 Seconds” open on Monday 7 June

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and co-organized by the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, the “hush! Full Music Summer Concert” will be held from 26 June to 11 July in different districts across Macao, featuring music performances, music workshops, local booths and art installation. Registrations for the short video competition “hush! 300 Seconds” will be open from 7 June (Monday), and all music aficionados are welcome to participate.


UM achieves major breakthrough in nasopharyngeal carcinoma treatment

Prof Chuxia Deng, dean of the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), and his research team, have successfully developed a novel cancer precision medicine strategy by integrating tumour organoid culture, genome sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis in collaboration with Kiang Wu Hospital. This strategy is a new breakthrough in precision medicine and can provide personalised treatment suggestions for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients of different subtypes. The study has been published in the internationally renowned journal Nature Communications.


“Consumer Online” QR code available in different areas for consumers’ convenience

For the convenience of consumers to use the services of “Consumer Online”, the Consumer Council has widely posted QR code stickers and posters of “Consumer Online” in supermarkets and buildings across Macao. Consumers may scan the QR code to access the platform, submit their text or pictures for the Council to follow up.


Transport and communications statistics for April 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 244,327 as at end-April 2021, up by 1.9% year-on-year. Light automobiles (111,711) and heavy motorcycles (103,453) grew by 2.1% and 3.7% year-on-year respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in April rose by 13.3% year-on-year to 971, with that of light automobiles (461) surging by 60.6% whereas that of heavy motorcycles (483) falling by 13.1%. In the first four months of 2021, new registration of motor vehicles increased by 40.7% year-on-year to 4,477. Number of traffic accidents in April totalled 1,022, with 377 persons injured. In the first four months of 2021, there were 4,097 traffic accidents, which caused 1,394 injuries.


External merchandise trade statistics for April 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.06 billion in April 2021, up by 71.9% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP906 million) rose by 70.2%, with that of Watches, Wine and Diamond & diamond jewellery surging by 505.7%, 377.4% and 118.5% respectively. Moreover, value of domestic exports (MOP154 million) grew by 82.4%, with that of Garments and Copper & articles thereof rising by 334.7% and 20.7% respectively. Total merchandise import swelled by 265.7% year-on-year to MOP13.74 billion, of which imports of Gold jewellery, Perfumes, Handbags & wallets and Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products rocketing by 4,814.0%, 1,395.1%, 1,165.5% and 1,137.4% respectively, whereas that of Other textile made-up articles declined by 56.2%. Merchandise trade deficit in April 2021 totalled MOP12.68 billion.
