Macao Public Library launches self-services for library card application and e-payment
In response to the SAR Government’s electronic service initiative, the Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) recently launches self-services for library card application and e-payment. By introducing these convenient measures, the Library seeks to encourage residents to use the library resources and services, thereby encouraging reading habits in the community.

Consumer Council released 6th supermarket price survey report of the current month
The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of November on 22 November for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in São Lázaro, São Lourenço and Sé Parishes. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.

Survey on manpower needs and wages for the 3rd quarter of 2019 Banking sector
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of banks in Macao totalled 29 at the end of the third quarter of 2019, an increase of 2 compared to the first quarter. Full-time employees rose by 406 year-on-year to 6,718 in the Banking Sector. Analysed by occupation, there were 1,884 directors and managers, and 2,101 clerks (including 719 bank tellers).

UM professor appointed member and academic advisor of Association for the Studies of the History and Culture of Macao
Prof António Vasconcelos de Saldanha of the Department of History, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), has been appointed a member and academic advisor of the prestigious Association for the Studies of the History and Culture of Macao. Prof Saldanha is the first non-Chinese scholar to receive this honour.

Registration for the outreach activities of “Lingua Franca – 2nd Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” is open
Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “Língua Franca - 2nd Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” is currently held at No. 55-57, Avenida do Coronel Mesquita (Green Townhouses) and the Former Municipal Cattle Stable. The outreach activities “InstaMeet” and “Pechakucha” will be held on 24 and 27 November. All interested parties are welcome to participate.

FSS Proposes an Increase in Various Benefits and Allowances for the Coming Year
The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) today (22nd November) presented a proposal to the Standing Committee for the Coordination of Social Affairs for an increase in the social security benefits and allowances in the coming year. The proposal was unanimously agreed by the employer and employee representatives of the Committee.

MGTO and Office for Personal Data Protection co-host seminar to raise tourism industry professionals’ awareness of personal data protection
The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Office for Personal Data Protection jointly organized the “Personal Data Protection Act” Seminar. In tandem with the continuous objective to publicize and promote the Personal Data Protection Act, the seminar prompted tourism industry professionals to be aware of personal data protection and adopt effective preventive measures when dealing with personal data of residents and visitors, raising awareness of the pertinent rights across the industry.

“Macao Light Festival 2019 – Explore the Light” will illuminate Macao’s 20-year epic journey in December Dazzling northern district for the first time and featuring non-local performance teams again
“Macao Light Festival 2019 – Explore the Light” is set to dazzle different places in Macao from 1st to 31st December, manifesting the sound development of the Macao Special Administrative Region since its establishment 20 years ago through the splendour of light artistry. Staged for the fifth year, Macao Light Festival will illuminate the city’s northern district for the first time, and once again feature participation of non-local teams just as last year. Four teams coming from Spain, Portugal, Japan and Shenzhen will join two local teams to present an array of projection mapping shows. The organizer, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), joined hands with the co-organizers Municipal Affairs Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau and Sports Bureau to hold a press conference and unveil the splendid event program today (21st November).

Two forums on sustainable tourism and hospitality practices in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area opened today (21 November) at the University of Macau (UM). The forums aimed to provide a platform for industry practitioners and academics to share their knowledge and experience in sustainable tourism and hospitality practices in the Greater Bay Area in order to promote education and employment in related fields in the area.
