Social Welfare Bureau will open the Emergency Shelter to Public if the temperature drops to or below 12 Celsius degrees

According to SMG predictions, the temperature will drop down during Chinese New Year. When the temperature drops to or below 12 Celsius degrees in Macau, the Social Welfare Bureau thus opens the Emergency Shelter at Rua de Asilo Ilha Verde to the public until the weather turns warm. The shelter offers linens, food and drink for its users.


Cancellation of SWB Chinese New Year’s Banquet for the Workers of the Social Service Sectors in February

Due to the cooperation with Macao SAR government for the epidemic prevention work of Wuhan Coronavirus (2019n-CoV), the “Unity Exertion· Innovate Social Services” Chinese New Year’s Banquet for the Workers of the Social Service Sectors, with about 500 attendants in expectation, which is originally planned to be held on 12 February, 2020 (Wednesday), from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm, at the Macau Tower, is now cancelled by Social Welfare Bureau. Later the letters of notification will be sent to related sections and social service organizations.


The DSEJ announces that all interschool competitions and activities organised by the DSEJ between January and March will be suspended or postponed

In response to the novel coronavirus epidemic situation, the DSEJ now announces that all interschool competitions and activities organised by the DSEJ between January and March will be suspended or postponed. Schools or related institutions will be notified of the new arrangements for the activities. For enquiry, please call 83972641 during office hours.


Ten Higher Education Institutions of Macao Postpone Classes till 11 February

In light of the confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Macao, for the purpose of lowering the risk of the spread of the virus, ten higher education institutions of Macao, namely University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, Academy of Public Security Forces, Macau University of Science and Technology, City University of Macau, University of Saint Joseph, Kiang Wu Nursing College, Macau Institute of Management and Macau Millennium College, after examining the situation with the Higher Education Bureau, agreed unanimously that all classes will be postponed to 11 th February (Tuesday).



Social Welfare Bureau advised parents not to bring your children back to nurseries after Chinese New Year

Here is the advice from Social Welfare Bureau to all nurseries and parents:considering the outbreak of Wuhan Coronavirus (2019n-CoV) and seeing the development of this epidemic, Social Welfare Bureau advised parents/guardians who are able to take care of children at home not to bring your children back to nurseries after Chinese New Year holidays, and try to keep them at home at this stage. Yet for parents and children who are in need of nursery service, please noted that all the subsidized nurseries will open as usual.


Cultural Affairs Bureau closes cultural facilities

In response to the current outbreak of the new coronavirus, all public libraries of the Cultural Affairs Bureau will be closed from 2pm on 24 January, and all cultural venues will be closed from 25 January. The reopening date of the cultural venues will be announced in due course.


Maritime Museum closed from tomorrow

In response to the current outbreak of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus and to reinforce preventative measures, the Maritime Museum will be closed from tomorrow, 25 January, until further notice.


Sports Bureau facilities will be temporarily closed from 4 pm today

Due to the current situation with regards to the novel coronavirus infection outbreak, all sports facilities under the administration of the Sports Bureau will be closed from 4pm today (24 Jan) until further notice. Refunds will be made to the organisations and individuals who have made reservations for using the facilities. The Sports Bureau will continue to monitor the outbreak and make appropriate arrangements, and appeals to the public for understanding and cooperation.


The DSEJ announces the postponement of resumption of classes at non-tertiary education schools

In response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, the DSEJ has announced that all non-tertiary education schools in Macao will resume classes on or after 10thFebruary, 2020 (Monday) after the Chinese New Year holiday. Schools have to make preparations for students to study at home. Private tutorial centres and continuing education institutions must also postpone their resumption date to 10th February (Monday) or after. During this period, the DSEJ will continue to closely monitor the development of the epidemic situation and make corresponding arrangements in due course.
