Cultural Affairs Bureau organises countdown events in Macao and Taipa to celebrate the New Year with the public

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and co-organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Municipal Affairs Bureau and TDM – Teledifusão de Macau, S.A., the 2024 Macau Countdown Concert and the 2024 Taipa Countdown Show will be held at Sai Van Lake Plaza and Taipa Houses, respectively, on the evening of 31 December. Famous Hong Kong singers George Lam, Sally Yeh and Johnny Yip will participate in the closing performances, celebrating the New Year with a number of artists, for the delight of residents and tourists.





Collection of award-winning essays on patriotism from UM Cheng Yu Tung College published

The book Voices of Elegance—A Collection of Award-Winning Essays on Patriotism from Cheng Yu Tong College of the University of Macau, edited by Interim Master Wong Seng Fat and Associate Master Gong Yingxue of Cheng Yu Tong College (CYTC) of the University of Macau (UM), has been published by Culture Hall. This publication marks a significant milestone in CYTC’s efforts in national education.


UM successfully completes its first Institutional Quality Audit

The University of Macau (UM) has successfully completed its first Institutional Quality Audit (IQA), conducted by the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). This reflects international recognition of the university’s educational quality and operational efficiency.

The Macao Orchestra presents the concerts “Unforgettable Melodies at the Ruins of St. Paul’s” on 25 December, at the Ruins of St. Paul’s, at 6pm and 7pm, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and co-ordinated by the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited. The Macao Orchestra (OM) will join hands with several local choirs to present cheerful and melodious Christmas songs, celebrating this festivity with residents and tourists. New members for the participating choirs will also be recruited.


Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau launches the 38th issue of Books and the City

The 38th issue of Books and the City, published by the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), is now available to the public. Themed “The Era of E-Reading”, this issue introduces the diverse e-resources available at IC’s public libraries, shares user experiences, and features insights from experts on the current e-reading trends.


Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for October 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments went up by 6.8% month-on-month in October 2024 on account of the National Day holidays. Receipts of Chinese Restaurants and Western Restaurants rose by 10.6% and 8.6% respectively from the previous month, while receipts of Japanese & Korean Restaurants decreased by 1%. In addition, sales of the interviewed retailers increased by 28.6% month-on-month in October. All types of interviewed retailers registered sales growth, with a notable uplift in the sales of retailers of Adults' Clothing (+45.6%), Leather Goods (+39.5%), Watches, Clocks & Jewellery (+32.6%) and Cosmetics & Sanitary Articles (+30%).
