The Macao Orchestra presents the concerts “Unforgettable Melodies at the Ruins of St. Paul’s” on 25 December, at the Ruins of St. Paul’s, at 6pm and 7pm, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and co-ordinated by the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited. The Macao Orchestra (OM) will join hands with several local choirs to present cheerful and melodious Christmas songs, celebrating this festivity with residents and tourists. New members for the participating choirs will also be recruited.

Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for October 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments went up by 6.8% month-on-month in October 2024 on account of the National Day holidays. Receipts of Chinese Restaurants and Western Restaurants rose by 10.6% and 8.6% respectively from the previous month, while receipts of Japanese & Korean Restaurants decreased by 1%. In addition, sales of the interviewed retailers increased by 28.6% month-on-month in October. All types of interviewed retailers registered sales growth, with a notable uplift in the sales of retailers of Adults' Clothing (+45.6%), Leather Goods (+39.5%), Watches, Clocks & Jewellery (+32.6%) and Cosmetics & Sanitary Articles (+30%).

UM students win first prize in global AI competition
A team of students from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) participated in the 2024 Tencent AI Arena Global Open Competition and won the first prize in the international final of the Intelligent Agent Gaming Algorithm Track. The team received a prize of RMB 100,000. The competition attracted over 2,000 teams from nearly 390 universities across 18 countries and regions, including the UK, Japan, Germany, the US, and Singapore.

Cultural Affairs Bureau announces selection results of the programme “Commissioning Performing Arts Productions”
In order to promote the development of Macao into a “City of Performing Arts”, create performance opportunities for local performing arts industries, highlight Macao’s role as the “One Base” platform for cultural exchanges, and enhance the image of a “Cultural Macao”, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) launched a new round of the programme “Commissioning Performing Arts Productions” this year, calling for proposals of local commissioned productions. Six works were selected in this programme and their commissioned productions are expected to premiere between 2025 and 2026.
