CE to deliver at Legislative Assembly work summary for 2024

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, will attend at 3pm on 19 November a plenary session of the Legislative Assembly, to give a summary on policy-implementation work done in 2024, and to introduce a budget proposal for 2025.

MPU Receives the 2024 APQN Quality Awards
Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has been conferred the “APQN Quality Awards” at the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) Academic Conference and Annual General Meeting 2024. It is the only higher education institution in Macao to have secured the “APQN Quality Awards” four times. IAM sets up temporary collection points for large unwanted furniture items in November
To facilitate the public’s disposal of large unwanted furniture items, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will set up 60 temporary collection points for large unwanted furniture items in the different districts of Macao from 1 to 7 November. Out of the 60 temporary collection points, 50 are located in the Macao Peninsula, 6 are located in Taipa and 4 are located in Coloane.

IAM continues to organise multiple animal protection activities in November to promote animal adoption
The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and animal protection groups will continue to organise multiple activities in November, including the “Sharing Talk on Adoption of Dogs and Cats” and the “Talk on Health and Veterinary Care of Cat Breeds” with the theme of Ragdoll. In addition, the “Pet Preparatory Class – Pet Information Station” will tour different neighbourhoods to continuously promote the concepts of animal epidemic prevention and protection, adoption and being a responsible owner. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the activities.

Exhibition “Shared Roots and Interconnected Branches: The Importance of National Culture and Sentiment within the Heart of Macao’s Historical Buildings” opens to the public at the Macao Cultural Centre from 31 October
In order to deepen the public’s understanding of the relationship between Macao’s historical buildings and the country’s historical events, the exhibition “Shared Roots and Interconnected Branches: The Importance of National Culture and Sentiment within the Heart of Macao’s Historical Buildings”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, and co-organised by the Art Exhibitions China, is held at the “‧ART Space” of the Macao Cultural Centre from today (31 October) until 1 January 2025. Admission is free and all are welcome to visit.

Greater Bay Area Cultural Heritage Forum inaugurated exploring the new paradigm of interconnected development
In order to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR, the “Greater Bay Area Cultural Heritage Forum”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and co-organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Guangdong Province and the Development Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, under the patronage of the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, and supported by MGM, was inaugurated today (31 October) at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium. Focusing on “the integration and sharing of cultural heritage in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”, the Forum features the participation of representatives from cities of the Greater Bay Area, as well as experts and scholars in the field of cultural heritage from home and abroad, to deliver speeches on such topics and share their research results.

Results of wholesale and retail survey 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 15,817 wholesale & retail establishments, market stalls and fixed street stalls operating in 2023, a decrease of 10 year-on-year; total number of persons engaged dropped by 832 to 64,693. Wholesale & Retail Trade was back on the growth track following the resumption of economic activity, with receipts increasing by 27% year-on-year to MOP136.41 billion. Expenditure (excluding depreciation, taxes and interest) amounted to MOP120.96 billion, up by 18.5%. Gross Surplus surged by 170.8% to MOP18.37 billion. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy totalled MOP29.36 billion, an upsurge of 71.2% year-on-year.

Transport and communications statistics for the first three quarters of 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 251,809 as at the end of the third quarter of 2024, up by 0.6% year-on-year. In the first three quarters, cross-border vehicular traffic (6,669,112 trips), passenger ferry trips (59,708 trips) and arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport (42,400 trips) rose by 27.4%, 22.4% and 57.8% year-on-year respectively. As at the end of the third quarter, number of mobile phone subscribers (1,439,021) and internet subscribers (770,664) showed respective growth of 6.3% and 7.4%.
