Applications for the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Academic Research Grants” open in March

The applications for the “Academic Research Grants”, launched by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be open from 1 March to 31 May 2019.


Macao task group to coordinate SAR 20th anniversary celebrations

The Government has set up a cross-departmental task group to coordinate celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).




MICE statistics for the 4th quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of MICE events held in the fourth quarter of 2018 increased by 83 year-on-year to 461, comprising 429 meetings & conferences, 22 exhibitions and 10 incentives. Number of participants and attendees was 736,000, up by 5.8%. For the whole year of 2018, number of MICE events went up by 46 year-on-year to 1,427, including 1,342 meetings & conferences (+57), 60 exhibitions (+9) and 25 incentives (-20). Number of participants and attendees reached 2,122,000, up by 11.6% year-on-year.


Friendly reminder: new aviation security requirements are implemented on 01 March

The Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) will soon implement new aviation security requirements through two new aeronautical circulars commencing 1 March 2019. Such requirements include the prohibition of transporting lighters on aircraft and transporting selfie stick, camera/video recorder tripod and monopod exceeding 30 cm after retraction in carry-on baggage, and so on. AACM advises passengers to arrive in the airport with ample time to go through the security screening procedures in case some delay might occur when the new requirements are in force in the initial phase.


Macao Philatelic Catalogue IX

Following the eighth edition of “Macao Philatelic Catalogue” issued in 2017, the ninth edition has also been well-printed. Continuing the previous edition’s format, it covers well-organized text providing comprehensive background information on all philatelic products issued from 2017 to 2018.


Special Exhibition to Celebrate the 13th Anniversary of the Communications Museum

To celebrate its anniversary, the Communications Museum will launch, on March 1st, a special exhibition “Stamps Around the World – Liechtenstein, Kingdom of Stamps”. This will be the first stamp exhibition to showcase the stamps issued by a particular country or region. Special thanks to Liechtenstein National Museum and Philately Liechtenstein for lending their precious collections that allow us to appreciate the beautiful stamps of “Princely Treasures”, “Chinese Signs of the Zodiac”, “Technology and Life”, “Beautiful Liechtenstein” and “Classic Car Collection” of Liechtenstein.

Results of retail sales survey for 4th Quarter of 2018

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that value of retail sales for the fourth quarter of 2018 increased by 4.1% year-on-year to MOP19.87 billion and rose by 9.4% as compared with the revised figure (MOP18.15 billion) in the third quarter of 2018. Watches, Clocks & Jewellery accounted for 20.9% of the total value of retail sales, followed by Goods in Department Stores (16.3%), Adults’ Clothing (13.4%) and Leather Goods (12.4%).
