CE meets Portuguese delegation of municipal mayors and representatives of AEP Foundation
The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, met with a delegation consisting of mayors from municipalities within the Portuguese regions of Douro, Tamega and Sousa, and of representatives of Portugal’s AEP Foundation. The two sides discussed how to make effective use of Macao as a platform, in order to deepen cooperation and exchanges between China and Portugal.

Results of restaurants and similar establishments survey 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 4,977 restaurants and similar establishments (i.e. restaurants, eating & drinking places, takeaway shops and cooked-food stalls in municipal markets) operating in 2023, an increase of 248 year-on-year; total number of persons engaged rose by 2,179 to 38,732. Receipts of the industry grew by 42% year-on-year to MOP14.67 billion in 2023, on account of the gradual resumption of local economic activity and a rebound in the number of visitor arrivals to Macao. In addition, expenditure rose by 25% year-on-year to MOP14.72 billion. The industry faced a deficit of MOP20.33 million in 2023, much smaller than the deficit (-MOP1.45 billion) recorded in the previous year. Meanwhile, Gross Value Added that measures the industry’s contribution to the economy amounted to MOP4.8 billion, up by 67.7% year-on-year.

In order to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR and to promote exchange and cooperation in regard to cultural heritage in the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area, the “Greater Bay Area Cultural Heritage Forum” will be held from 31 October to 1 November at the Macao Cultural Centre, Small Auditorium, presenting a series of activities which will be held from late October. Applications for guided tours to visit the revitalised historic buildings in Macao and family workshops will be open from 18 October, and the public is welcome to participate.

MPU Scholar Honoured as “World's Top 2% Scientist”
Stanford University released the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” annual impact rankings. Associate Professor Mark Teng of the Faculty of Languages and Translation (FLT) at Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has been selected for the fourth consecutive year. In the field of “Language and Linguistics,” he ranks 4th among 35 scholars from Chinese higher education institutions (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) with comprehensive influence in the top 2% globally. He is the only scholar from Macao to be listed in this field, ranking 79th among 21,383 scholars worldwide.

The best of Chinese performing arts Lyrical treasures return to Macao
Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Macao Special Administrative Region, through a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR, the China National Peking Opera Company is returning to the Macao Cultural Centre with two shows to be performed on 6 and 7 December (Friday and Saturday) at the Grand Auditorium.
