“Palace of Double Brilliance: Special Exhibition from the Palace Museum” to be inaugurated showcasing the glorious days of Emperor Qianlong as a sovereign who elevated the Qing dynasty to new heights
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR, the “Palace of Double Brilliance: Special Exhibition from the Palace Museum”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Palace Museum, implemented by the Macao Museum of Art, and supported by the Macao Foundation, Macao Government Tourism Office and Macao Daily News, will be inaugurated on 28 November (Thursday), at 5:30pm, on the 4th floor of the Macao Museum of Art, presenting a collection of over 130 items under the theme of the “Palace of Double Brilliance” selected from the Palace Museum. All are welcome to visit.

【Symphony of Time and Space】Light up Macao 2024 will unveil dazzling extravaganza for double celebrations in December
Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the festive event “Light up Macao 2024 in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region” (referred to as the “event”) will be staged from 7 December 2024 to 28 February 2025. Themed as “Symphony of Time and Space”, the event will dazzle the city across 2024 and 2025 for 84 days. Overseas, Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao artists will join international teams to create a symphony of exquisite light art across time and space, weaving a kaleidoscope of flagship installations, artistic installations, illuminations, interactive installations as well as mapping shows into one dazzling cityscape. It will be a string of glittery immersive experiences for Macao residents and visitors to enjoy at nighttime in celebration of both anniversaries. The event is set to spur community tourism and nighttime economy, enriching what the city has to offer as a world centre of tourism and leisure.

Visitor arrivals for October 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals increased by 13.7% year-on-year to 3,135,358 in October 2024, recovering to 97.7% of the level in the same month in 2019; in addition, the figure represented a month-on-month growth of 24%. Same-day visitors (1,789,072) and overnight visitors (1,346,286) grew by 23.2% and 3.1% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days, with that of overnight visitors remaining unchanged at 2.3 days.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will introduce a promotional webpage “Fancy Treats at Your Fingertips” to bring into the limelight more than 450 special offers of local integrated resort enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR. The themed webpage will be available between 1 and 31 December. Macao residents and visitors can check out and enjoy these offers in the city for a deeper experience of Macao’s diverse “tourism +” and unique charm, in joyful celebration of the handover anniversary.

UM, University of Coimbra organise joint seminar on international and EU law
The Faculty of Law (FLL) of the University of Macau (UM) and the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (UC) jointly organised the ‘Joint Seminar between Faculty of Law of University of Macau and Faculty of Law of University of Coimbra: Contemporary Issues of International and European Union Law & Recognition Ceremony: Tribute to Professor Doutor Manuel Lopes Porto’. The ceremony aimed to honour Manuel Lopes Porto, professor of UC, for his outstanding contributions to higher education and academic exchanges between Macao and Coimbra, Portugal, and the seminar aimed to discuss contemporary issues in international and European Union (EU) law.

Adjustment to criteria to purchase Macau New Neighbourhood effective today
The criteria to purchase a residential unit at Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) in Hengqin has been adjusted, including removing the age limit, removing the five-year resale restriction, and adjusting the calculation of the amount of residential unit that one can purchase, which means eligible Macau residents are no longer bound by the restriction where a married couple is counted as one unit. The adjustments are effective today. MNN is open to holders of Macau resident identity card to purchase.

Retail sales survey for the first three quarters of 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the value of retail sales decreased by 16.9% year-on-year to MOP53.48 billion in the first three quarters of 2024, corresponding to 95% of the level in the same period in 2019. In the third quarter, value of retail sales totalled MOP16.59 billion, up by 2.5% as compared with the revised figure (MOP16.19 billion) in the second quarter but down by 15.5% year-on-year.

Result of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 3rd quarter of 2024 – Financial activities
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 8,554 full-time employees in Financial Activities at the end of the third quarter of 2024, down by 12 (-0.1%) year-on-year. Among them, those in the Banking Sector and Other Financial Intermediation (e.g. payment service institutions, financial leasing companies) decreased by 23 (-0.3%) and 9 (-3.3%) year-on-year to 7,258 and 265 respectively, whereas those in Insurance Activities increased by 10 (+1.2%) to 811.
