6th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries expands its scale to facilitate international cultural and artistic exchange
Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, with the support of the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Municipal Affairs Bureau, TDM - Teledifusão de Macau, S.A., and Air Macau Company Limited, the 6th “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” will be held from October to December this year. The event is held in parallel with the “2024 GEG Lusofonia Festival”, and also features 70 sessions of activities, including the “Annual Arts Exhibition between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”, the “China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival”, the “Tito Paris Concert with the Macao Chinese Orchestra”, the “Chinese and Portuguese Picture Book Fair”, the “GEG Traditional Music and Dance Performance in the Community”, and wine tasting workshops, counting with the participation of nearly 700 artists and performers at historical cultural heritage buildings, local neighbourhoods and modern theatres, revealing the splendour of cultural integration between different regions.

“Style · Encounter Moment” Fashion Parade will be held next Friday
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and co-ordinated by the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM), the “Style · Encounter Moment” Fashion Parade of the Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making will be held at 12pm on 18 October at the Macao Fashion Festival 2024 in Cotai Expo Hall C of The Venetian Macao. Admission is free and the public is welcome to appreciate the local fashion design.

Review of Culture International Edition No. 75 Commemoration of the half millennium of Camões and a variety of Macao studies
The current issue of the Review of Culture (RC) starts with two articles dedicated to commemorate the half millennium of the birth of Luís de Camões. The first article explores the vitality of the Camonian epic, revealing its unique position within Portuguese literature and its reinterpretation across centuries. The second one highlights the significance of the Camões Garden and Grotto in 18th century Macao, demonstrating its position as a cultural landmark through foreign travellers’ accounts.

Macao Higher Education Sector Holds Various Patriotic Events for Double Celebrations
In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region (hereinafter referred to as “double celebrations”), the Education and Youth Development Bureau (the “DSEDJ”), in collaboration with ten local higher education institutions, will hold more than 60 double celebration events from October to December to enhance the educational impact of these events and foster a sense of patriotism and love for Macao among teachers and students.

[Driving the “1+4” industries] 29th MIF features six exhibition areas + 6 themed business matching sessions to promote enterprise collaboration
As part of the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, the “29th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair” (29th MIF) has further refined its exhibition layout. Among the six exhibition areas, two are newly introduced, namely the “Diversified Industries Zone” and the “Portuguese-Speaking Countries Market Zone”. In addition, six themed business matching sessions and a range of online and offline promotional activities and services will be arranged simultaneously. These initiatives will leverage Macao’s unique role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and align with the “1+4” strategy for appropriately diversified economic development. The fair aims to foster the “industries+ MICE” synergy, in a bid to contribute to Macao’s appropriate economic diversification.

Results of advertising and conference & exhibition organising services survey 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Advertising and Conference & Exhibition Organising Services industries recorded Gross Surplus in 2023 as against their deficits in the previous year, which reflected an obvious improvement in business environment in 2023 compared to 2022. This was attributed to an increase in the demand from businesses and institutions for publicity amid economic revival, coupled with a strong rebound in the number of MICE events.

Results of property management, security and cleaning services survey 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 235 establishments were engaged in Property Management Services in 2023, up by 7 year-on-year. Number of persons engaged increased by 8.7% year-on-year to 8,157. Receipts of Property Management Services went down by 1.3% year-on-year to MOP1.92 billion. Expenditure dropped by 1.3% to MOP1.79 billion, with Compensation of Employees (58.8%) and Operating Expenses (28.3%) accounting for relatively large proportions. Gross Surplus totalled MOP128 million, down by 1.9% year-on-year. Gross Value Added, which measures the industry’s contribution to the economy, rose by 3.4% year-on-year to MOP1.18 billion.

Greater Bay Area Cultural Heritage Forum to be held in late October to promote the protection, inheritance, revitalisation and utilisation of cultural heritage in the Greater Bay Area
In order to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR and to promote exchange and cooperation in regard to cultural heritage in the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area, the series of activities of the “Greater Bay Area Cultural Heritage Forum” will be held from October to November, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and co-organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province and the Development Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, under the patronage of the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, and supported by MGM. Focusing on “the integration and sharing of cultural heritage in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”, the Forum will feature the participation of representatives from cities of the Greater Bay Area, as well as experts and scholars in the field of cultural heritage from home and abroad, to deliver speeches on such topics and share their research results. Registration for the Forum is open from 8 October.

As part of the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, the 29th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (29th MIF) will host over ten economic and trade promotion activities focusing on Portuguese-speaking countries. The “Portuguese-Speaking Countries Market Zone” will also be set up, featuring over 200 booths with more than 180 exhibitors. This will further enhance Macao’s role as a platform for fostering co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. The fair is committed to providing an integrated space for exhibitions, forums and conferences, project promotion seminars, and business matching sessions, creating more interactive opportunities for participants to experience Portuguese-speaking countries’ products and services while fostering greater trade exchanges between China, Portuguese-speaking countries, and the international market.
