MPU Holds Opening Ceremony for the New Academic Year, Welcoming 3,000 New Students

MPU held its Opening and Orientation Launching Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic year today, 21st August. The ceremony featured the raising of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem in a solemn atmosphere as it welcomed 3,000 new bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students from Macao as well as from across the nation and the Greater Bay Area, and from Portuguese-speaking countries and other parts of the globe. MPU is actively participating in the development of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town. Rector Marcus Im delivered an opening lecture to the new students, encouraging them to uphold the spirit of patriotism and love for Macao, and to contribute their wisdom and strength to the construction and development of the country and Macao. Olympic champions Jiao Liuyang and Zhang Yangyang spoke on behalf of the new students, expressing their commitment to integrate the athletes’ spirit of perseverance into their academic pursuits, to deepen their area of expertise and to bravely reach new heights of knowledge with a rigorous and pragmatic attitude.

UM holds awards ceremony for Bank of China Trophy UltiMater Entrepreneur Competition

The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at the University of Macau (UM) held the final round and awards ceremony of the ‘2025 Bank of China Trophy UltiMater Entrepreneur Competition’. A total of 70 entrepreneurial teams from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas participated in the competition, and 12 teams stood out in the first round. After fierce competition in the second and final rounds, six teams were awarded prizes, with a total prize pool over MOP 110,000. The competition was sponsored by the Bank of China (Macau).


IAM and Ocean Park Hong Kong sign memorandum of intent for conservation cooperation

The delegation of the representatives of Ocean Park Hong Kong visited the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) today (21 August). Both parties signed the “Memorandum of Intent for Conservation Cooperation between Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao and Ocean Park Hong Kong”, further strengthening the cooperative relation in conservation of giant pandas and wild animals of the two places.


【Tourism + events】 The 33rd Macao International Fireworks Display Contest will grandly commence on 6 September

Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the 33rd Macao International Fireworks Display Contest (“the Contest”) will be held from 6 September to 6 October. Fireworks companies from 10 countries around the world will present spectacular displays, showcasing Macao’s appeal as a destination for “tourism + events”. The event enriches nocturnal activities of the “City of Events,” and in tandem with the “Fireworks Carnival” and online game, to boost public participation, attract the influx of visitors and invigorate the local economy.


One hundred pieces of original works by Lok Cheong from the collection of the Macao Museum of Art exhibited in Tibet Exhibition “Ties to the Tibetan Heart” highlights a new chapter of artistic connection between Tibet and Macao

Under the patronage of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, organised by the Federation of Literary and Art Circles of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Macau Artist Society, and co-organised by the Tibet Art Museum and the Macao Museum of Art, the exhibition “Ties to the Tibetan Heart: Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Tibet Autonomous Region – An Exhibition of Lok Cheong's Works in Tibet” was inaugurated on 13 August at the Tibet Art Museum. The exhibition is held until 12 October and the admission is free.

The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, today paid a special visit to the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, during his inspection visit to Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.


CE meets Secretary of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee in Nanjing

The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, today met, in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, with the Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, Mr Xin Changxing, to exchange views on deepening cooperation between Jiangsu and Macao across various sectors.
