UM, Hunan University sign student exchange agreement
Students and faculty members from Yuelu Academy of Hunan University made a reciprocal visit to Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) of the University of Macau (UM). During the visit, the two colleges signed a student exchange agreement to facilitate annual short-term exchange trips for students from both sides.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province and Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) jointly held the overseas tourism promotional events for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,namely“Greater Bay Area – Connecting Great Experiences” in Frankfurt, Germany and London, the United Kingdom on 14 and 16 October respectively. The events introduced the latest tourism offerings of the three destinations to local industry partners and media, in a collaborative effort to promote multi-destination travel products and brand the Greater Bay Area as a glamorous destination for the European market, together expanding international visitor markets.

Top mathematicians give talk on essence and future of mathematics at UM
As part of the University Lecture Series, the University of Macau (UM) held a talk today (October 17), featuring Efim Zelmanov, chair professor at Southern University of Science and Technology, and Zhang Jiping, Boya Chair Professor at Peking University. Prof Zelmanov spoke on ‘Welcome to the New Beautiful Mathematical World’ while Prof Zhang spoke on ‘Numbers and Algebra’. The two mathematicians delved into the essence of mathematics, its application prospects, and its critical role in the development of contemporary technology.

23rd Macao City Fringe Festival deepens cultural ties in the community
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 23rdMacao City Fringe Festivalwas successfully concluded at the end of September. Aimed to take the public on a “leisurely stroll around the city”, the Fringe Festival this year staged 18 extraordinary programmes and 13 outreach activities, presenting over 100 sessions of activities and gathering more than 80 artists to explore the characteristics of the city. Utilising unconventional performance venues, the Festival infused artistic creativity into the community and deepened the connection between culture and community development. The event attracted nearly 9,000 participants and received enthusiastic support from residents and tourists.

Stanford professor discusses Chinese writer Su Dongpo’s work at UM
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) at the University of Macau (UM) held the Macao Humanities Forum, where Ronald Egan, the Stanford W. Ascherman, M.D. Professor and Confucius Institute Professor of Sinology in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Stanford University, delivered a lecture titled ‘A Forgotten Literary Colloquy: Qian Zhongshu, Su Dongpo, and Cyril Drummond Le Gros Clark, Sarawak’s Chief Secretary in 1935’. The lecture was well attended by students and faculty members.
