The University of Macau (UM) and the University of Coimbra held a ceremony to mark UM’s official entry as a member of the network established by the UNESCO Chair on Intercultural Dialogue on Heritages of Portuguese Influence (Patrimónios) at the University of Coimbra. This collaboration not only strengthens UM’s ties with higher education institutions in Portuguese-speaking countries but also injects new momentum into the development of cultural heritage research and international academic exchange in Macao.

The Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) High-Quality Talent Development Conference (hereinafter referred to as the Conference), organised alternately by the governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, will take place in Macao for the first time between 22 and 25 October (Wednesday to Saturday). The theme of this year’s Conference is ‘Look Beyond the Horizon, Embrace Diversity and Inclusiveness, and Forge Ahead with Resolve to Build an International Hub for High-Calibre Talent’. Through this event, the three governments hope to showcase the GBA’s talent policies and achievements, as well as its advantages and opportunities for development, with a view to attracting talent from around the world to the GBA and promoting the building of a talent hub in the GBA.

Students and faculty members from Yuelu Academy of Hunan University made a reciprocal visit to Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) of the University of Macau (UM). During the visit, the two colleges signed a student exchange agreement to facilitate annual short-term exchange trips for students from both sides.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province and Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) jointly held the overseas tourism promotional events for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,namely“Greater Bay Area – Connecting Great Experiences” in Frankfurt, Germany and London, the United Kingdom on 14 and 16 October respectively. The events introduced the latest tourism offerings of the three destinations to local industry partners and media, in a collaborative effort to promote multi-destination travel products and brand the Greater Bay Area as a glamorous destination for the European market, together expanding international visitor markets.

As part of the University Lecture Series, the University of Macau (UM) held a talk today (October 17), featuring Efim Zelmanov, chair professor at Southern University of Science and Technology, and Zhang Jiping, Boya Chair Professor at Peking University. Prof Zelmanov spoke on ‘Welcome to the New Beautiful Mathematical World’ while Prof Zhang spoke on ‘Numbers and Algebra’. The two mathematicians delved into the essence of mathematics, its application prospects, and its critical role in the development of contemporary technology.

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 23^rdMacao City Fringe Festivalwas successfully concluded at the end of September. Aimed to take the public on a “leisurely stroll around the city”, the Fringe Festival this year staged 18 extraordinary programmes and 13 outreach activities, presenting over 100 sessions of activities and gathering more than 80 artists to explore the characteristics of the city. Utilising unconventional performance venues, the Festival infused artistic creativity into the community and deepened the connection between culture and community development. The event attracted nearly 9,000 participants and received enthusiastic support from residents and tourists.
