UM holds opening ceremony for Doctor of Public Health programme

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Macau (UM) held an opening ceremony for the 2025/2026 intake of its Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) programme. The programme has admitted 35 new students this year, including hospital directors, heads of nursing departments, chief nurses, senior officials from disease control and prevention centres, public health administrators, psychotherapists, and general managers of e-commerce companies engaged in health innovation and public health services. The diverse backgrounds of the students reflect the programme’s emphasis on practical application and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) releases today (29 August) the preliminary balance of payments (BOP) statistics of Macao SAR for the reference year 2024. The BOP, which comprises the current account, the capital account and the financial account, is a statistical statement that summarises external transactions of an economy with the rest of the world.

According to statistics released today (29 August) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, funding costs of the banking sector in Macao generally fell in the second quarter of 2025.


International banking statistics – June 2025

According to the statistics released today (29 August) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the proportion of international business in the local banking sector rose in the second quarter of 2025. At end-June 2025, the share of international assets in total banking assets increased to 84.5% from 83.8% at end-March 2025, while the share of international liabilities in total banking liabilities rose to 81.3% from 80.8%.

The Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the second quarter of 2025 covers Wholesale & Retail Trade; Transport, Storage & Communications; Security Activities and Public Sewage & Refuse Disposal Activities. However, the self-employed are excluded. Meanwhile, employees include resident and non-resident employees living in or outside the Macao Special Administrative Region.


External merchandise trade statistics for July 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise exports increased by 8.8% year-on-year to MOP1.29 billion in July 2025, while total merchandise imports dropped by 1.9% to MOP10.29 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP9.00 billion.


Transport and communications statistics for July 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in the Macao Special Administrative Region totalled 253,163 as at end-July 2025, up by 0.9% year-on-year. In July, cross-border vehicular traffic (949,999 trips) rose by 22.0% year-on-year, whereas passenger ferry trips (6,246 trips) and arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport (4,723 trips) dropped by 8.6% and 10.1% respectively. As at end-July, number of mobile phone subscribers (1,487,626) and internet subscribers (780,320) showed respective growth of 4.3% and 1.7% year-on-year.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for July 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments stood at 91.0% in July 2025, an uplift of 1.9 percentage points year-on-year. Number of guests of hotel establishments increased by 4.0% year-on-year to 1,283,000. Meanwhile, number of inbound package tour visitors to the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) decreased by 18.4% year-on-year to 145,000 in July, as more Chinese mainland visitors travelled under the Individual Visit Scheme following the further facilitation of travel from the Mainland to the Macao SAR.
