Cast of Broadway classic Annie the Musical arrived in Macao 12 performances staged to reveal holding on to hope with Annie in times of adversity

Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Government of the Macao SAR, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), and co-organised and supported by various entities, 12 performances of the Broadway classic Annie the Musical, integrated in the 1st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival, will be held from 2 to 14 August at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. The organiser held a press meeting today (30 July), in which the production team of the programme and various performer together with a dog to share the highlights and behind-the-scenes stories of this heart-warming work.


Tap Siac Craft Market in autumn calls for stall operators and creative handicraft workshops

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the Tap Siac Craft Market in autumn will be held from 14 to 17, 21 to 24 November at Tap Siac Square. The calls for stall operators and creative handicraft workshops will be open from 30 July to 22 August. Applications are free of charge.


IAM continues to hold multiple animal protection activities in August and public participation is welcome

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and animal protection groups will continue to organise the “Talk on Health and Veterinary Care of Dogs” and “Sharing Talk on Adoption of Dogs and Cats” in August. In addition, the “Pet Preparatory Class – Pet Information Station” will tour different communities to promote the concepts of animal epidemic prevention and protection, adoption and being a responsible owner. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the activities.


[Enabling over 50 Business Matching Conversations] Macao-Hengqin Hold the First-ever Collaborative Investment Promotion Event in Portuguese-speaking African Country

The “Macao-Hengqin Investment Promotion Seminar (Mozambique)”, co-organised by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin and the Mozambique Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEX Mozambique), was successfully held on 29 July, local time. It was Macao-Hengqin’s first-ever collaborative investment promotion activity in Portuguese-speaking African country. More than 120 entrepreneurs and business elites from Mozambique, mainland China, Macao attended the event to discuss new opportunities for economic development focusing on the resources, economic and trade co-operation and joint industrial development. More than 50 business matching conversations were facilitated on-site, involving industries such as finance, big health, logistics, agriculture, trade and retail, as well as infrastructure.


Transport and communications statistics for the first half of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 250,633 as at the end of the first half of 2024, up by 0.4% year-on-year, with light automobiles (117,103) rising by 2.3%. In the first half year, new registration of motor vehicles went down by 0.9% year-on-year to 5,943 (including 1,814 electric vehicles); of which, heavy motorcycles declined by 30.4% to 2,170 (542 of them were electric), whereas light automobiles increased by 32.0% to 3,203 (779 of them were electric). New registration of motor vehicles in June decreased by 16.8% year-on-year to 864 (262 of them were electric). In the first half year, traffic accidents went up by 18.3% year-on-year to 7,666, which resulted in 2 deaths and 2,721 injuries. Number of traffic accidents in June dropped by 7.0% year-on-year to 1,257, with 390 persons injured.


External merchandise trade statistics for the first half of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that external merchandise trade totalled MOP70.70 billion in the first half of 2024, down by 9.0% compared to the same period last year (MOP77.69 billion). Total value of merchandise exports grew by 4.0% year-on-year to MOP6.62 billion, of which value of re-exports (MOP5.89 billion) increased by 4.5% while value of domestic exports (MOP728 million) decreased by 0.2%. Total value of merchandise imports dropped by 10.2% year-on-year to MOP64.08 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP57.47 billion in the first half of 2024, down by MOP7.50 billion from MOP64.97 billion in the same period last year.


The “One Country Two Systems” Study Camp 2024 Organised by MPU Gains Popularity

Working in conjunction with the Macao SAR Government's efforts to promote patriotic education of the Country and Macao, and to enhance Macao's reputation as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) once again hosted the “One Country Two Systems” Study Camp in July 2024. The study camp aimed to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy among young university students in Mainland China. Attended by a total of 100 teachers and students from over 20 higher education institutions in the Mainland, the Study Camp yielded fruitful results.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for the first half of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that inbound package tour visitors leapt by 166.0% year-on-year to 968,000 in the first half of 2024, with those from mainland China soaring by 143.0% to 851,000. In addition, international tour visitors jumped by 843.6% to 102,000; those from the Republic of Korea (42,000) and India (13,000) rocketed by 1,431.6% and 2,045.1% respectively.


Online registration for the exchange of four previously issued Zodiac banknotes commencing next Monday (5 August)

The second round of the exchange of the four previously issued Zodiac Banknotes (including the Rat, Ox, Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac Banknotes) will be available for online registration for Macao residents, starting from 9:00am on 5 August 2024 and until 6:00pm on 30 August 2024.

The “Celebration of 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the 25th Anniversary of Macao’s Return to the Motherland ‧ 2024 Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair” (2024GMBPF), jointly organised by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute of the Macao Special Administrative Region (IPIM) and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, concluded successfully today (28 July).
