UM rector leads delegation to visit top universities and government departments in Brazil to deepen cooperation in research and education
To further expand the international cooperation network of the University of Macau (UM), UM Rector Yonghua Song and Vice Rector Rui Martins led a delegation to visit Brazil. During the trip, they signed cooperation agreements with several renowned higher education institutions and established plans for cooperation, deepening the cooperation and coordinated development between UM and Brazilian institutions in the field of research and education.

Take precautions against online shopping scams as fake advertisements surge on social media

Recently, the Judiciary Police (PJ) discovered multiple Facebook pages that faked the pages of local department stores, gambling corporations, and watch retailers in Macao. The pages above falsely claimed that the stores were conducting promotional campaigns that offered limited edition designer handbags and luxury watches at meager prices. These fraudulent pages also used "sponsored" advertisements to proactively push these posts to Facebook users, luring them to click on the ads and place orders through the links. As the prices of the goods offered were far below market value, the products' authenticity is questionable, and there is also a risk that personal information may be extracted for illicit purposes.

【Experience Communities’ charm and taste】Creative Cities’ delegates visit communities for exploration and culinary exchange
Besides participating in the “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao”, delegates and chefs from various member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network also explored different neighborhoods for familiarization. In particular, chefs from different Creative Cities of Gastronomy visited local restaurants in communities for culinary exchange. In addition, they met and shared insights into culinary arts with chef teams from integrated resorts. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hopes that the outreach program can offer delegates of the Creative Cities from different fields an immersive experience of Macao’s “tourism +”, furthering exchange among the cities and preservation of culinary culture, while giving play to Macao’s strengths as a platform and world centre of tourism and leisure.

[Seizing Business Opportunities in the International Market] Enterprises Are Encouraged to Explore the Halal Market to Promote the Diversified Development of Macao Products
“Halal Certificate Presentation Ceremony and Introduction to the Halal Certification Application Process” was held today (20 June), attracting over 180 representatives from local enterprises to attend. The event was organised by the Industrial Association of Macau, and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) was one of the co-organisers. Building upon the previous collaboration between IPIM and the Industrial Association of Macau, which facilitated the participation of Macau enterprises in large-scale food expos in Singapore in July last year and Thailand in May this year, this event has been organized with the objective of engaging enterprises in activities that focus on expanding into markets in Southeast Asia and other relevant markets, aiming at assisting local enterprises in seizing international opportunities.

Consumer price index (CPI) for May 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for May 2024 rose by 0.77% year-on-year. Among the various sections of goods and services, the price indices of Education (+5.06%), Health (+2.76%) and Clothing & Footwear (+2.60%) saw notable year-on-year growth. In addition, the price indices of Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (+1.20%) and Housing & Fuels (+0.57%) increased owing to higher charges for eating out, dearer prices of liquefied petroleum gas and rising electricity charges. On the other hand, the price indices of Transport (-2.99%) and Recreation & Culture (-0.91%) dropped. The CPI-A and CPI-B recorded respective increases of 0.75% and 0.80% year-on-year.

Visitor arrivals for May 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals increased by 21.6% year-on-year to 2,692,191 in May 2024, recovering to 79.3% of the figure in the same month of 2019; besides, the figure represented a rise of 3.5% month-on-month. Same-day visitors (1,430,741) and overnight visitors (1,261,450) showed respective growth of 27.2% and 15.9% year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors held stable year-on-year at 1.2 days; the duration for same-day visitors remained unchanged at 0.2 day, while that for overnight visitors rose by 0.1 day to 2.3 days.
