Experts from multiple regions gather in food safety symposium to jointly promote regional food safety exchange and development

The food safety expert symposium of the “Joint Efforts in Food Safety for Double Celebration” Activity Series held by Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) convened on 7 June. Representatives from China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment and the food safety regulation authorities of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao were invited to engage in talks and discussions on issues such as the latest policies on food safety regulation, the impact of the development of information technology on food safety and food safety regulation of prepared food in the different regions, so as to promote the technical exchange and cooperation on food safety between the regions and the joint improvement of the level of food safety management.


Residential property price index for February – April 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index for February - April 2024 decreased by 2.0% over the previous period (January - March 2024) to 222.0. The indices for the Macao Peninsula (219.8) and Taipa & Coloane (230.9) dropped by 2.4% and 0.1% respectively.


Blessing ceremony held for 'Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR – 2024 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races'

Organized by the Sports Bureau, SJM Resorts, S.A. and the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China, and co-organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, the ‘Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR – 2024 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races’ will be held from 8 to 10 June at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre. A blessing ceremony was held by the Organizing Committee at the same venue today (6 June) to pray for the success of this annual event.


GACC talks with local youth to exchange ideas on food safety issues and deepen national education

To help local youth further understand the Mainland’s work to ensure the quality and quantity of food for supply to Macao and experience the efforts taken by the Mainland to satisfy the needs of the Macao public and protect their “safety of every bite of food”, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) held the “General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) and Youth of Macao Exchange Forum” in the afternoon on 6 June. During the forum, representatives of GACC and the youth of Macao exchanged ideas on issues such as the history and the development of regulation of food for supply to Macao, food import and export policies and regional food safety cooperation. About 200 youth representatives from the various local associations and tertiary academic institutions attended the forum.


DSEDJ, Talent Committee and universities visit San Francisco, United States, to motivate outstanding international academics and students to conduct exchanges and pursue studies in Macao

To promote the internationalisation of higher education in Macao, attract more outstanding international academics and students to study and facilitate scientific research in Macao, while at the same time reserving talents for industries developing under the ‘1+4’ adequate economic diversification strategy, Education and Youth Development Bureau Director Kong Chi Meng, Talent Development Committee Secretary-General Chao Chong Hang, University of Macau Vice Rector Ge Wei, Macao Polytechnic University Rector Im Sio Kei, Macao University of Tourism Rector Vong Chuk Kwan, Macau University of Science and Technology President Lee Hun-wei, and City University of Macau Rector Liu Jun, travelled to San Francisco, the United States, between 27 and 31 May, and met with several local universities and Chinese students and scholars associations. During this journey, the delegation, led by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U, participated in the ‘U.S.-China Bay to Bay Dialogue’, visited the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco and held a two-session event titled ‘Development Opportunities for Talents in Macao, China’.


IAM holds food safety sharing session to help local food sector open up Mainland market

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) holds “Joint Efforts in Food Safety for Double Celebration” Activity Series for two consecutive days. Among the activities, “Sharing session on Joint Development of Food Safety” was held this morning (6 June). Representatives from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) and Gongbei Customs District were invited to brief the local food sector on the regulation of live and fresh food for supply to Macao and the facilitation measures adopted by the Mainland for customs clearance of food produced in Macao, so as to help the local food sector open up the Mainland market by utilising these advantageous policies, create a foundation for the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and better integrate Macao into the national development strategy.


Photography exhibition “25th Anniversary of Supply of Agricultural Food Products from the Mainland to Macao” inaugurated today

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the photography exhibition “Uniting for Progress on a New Journey—25th Anniversary of Supply of Agricultural Food Products from the Mainland to Macao” jointly organised by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) and the Secretariat for Administration and Justice (SAJ) of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and co-organised by the Gongbei Customs District and the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) was inaugurated at the IAM Gallery today (5 June). Nearly 100 precious pictures are displayed at the exhibition, allowing visitors to understand the historical process and far-reaching significance of the food supply from the Mainland to Macao, and have a real sense of the Mainland’s support for the safety and security of food supplied to Macao.


Macao universities rise in global rankings as the SAR Government continues to promote development in higher education

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a global higher education analytics firm, has released its World University Rankings 2025, featuring over 1,500 universities. The University of Macau jumps nine places from last year to rank 245th, and the Macau University of Science and Technology also rises by 41 places from 505th last year to 464th.


Macao Chinese Orchestra presents the concert “1,000 Years on the Strings” Hakka Guzheng Music heir Rao Shuhang performs traditional Guzheng music

As part of the Macao Chinese Orchestra Concert Season, the Hakka guzheng concert “1,000 Years on the Strings” will be held at the Dom Pedro V Theatre on Saturday 15 June at 8pm. Mr. Rao Shuhang, an heir and outstanding player of the Guangdong Hakka guzheng, is invited to serve as Artistic Director in this concert. In collaboration with the Macao Chinese Orchestra (MCHO), he will perform several pieces of Hanyue (Guangdong Hakka music), leading the audience to experience the elegance of traditional guzheng music.


Applications for the 2024 Film Arts Training Programme are now open

Jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and Wynn Macau, Limited, the applications for the 2024 Film Arts Training Programme will be open from 5 to 26 June. Selected candidates will be taught by a veteran film art director to deepen their knowledge of film arts, and will have the opportunity to be engaged in film production, in order to improve relevant professional skills. Interested parties are welcome to participate.
