The State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC) at the University of Macau (UM) held the 5th Macao International Conference on Smart City Technologies. Themed ‘Intelligent Synergy: AI-Driven Innovation for Smarter Urban Futures’, this year’s conference brought together over 100 experts and scholars from home and abroad to discuss key strategies, cutting-edge interdisciplinary knowledge and theories, and key technologies and applications for smart city development.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for July 2025 rose by 0.12% year-on-year and 0.11% month-on-month. For the 12 months ended July this year, the average Composite CPI grew by 0.28% from the previous period (August 2023 – July 2024).

Visitor arrivals for July 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals increased by 14.5% year-on-year to 3,458,366 in July 2025. Same-day visitors (1,980,732) and overnight visitors (1,477,634) rose by 24.1% and 3.7% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.2 days; the duration of stay for overnight visitors (2.4 days) remained unchanged while that for same-day visitors (0.2 day) went down by 0.1 day.

Small and medium-sized enterprise credit statistics – First half of 2025
According to statistics released today (22 August) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, newly approved small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) credit increased in the first half of 2025. On the other hand, the outstanding balance of SME loans dropped while the share of SME loans to major industries remained stable.

Survey on manpower needs and wages for the second quarter of 2025 – Gaming sector
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of full-time employees in the Gaming Sector increased by 380 (+0.7%) year-on-year to 52,898 at the end of the second quarter of 2025. The majority of them were local directors and managers.

MPU Holds Opening Ceremony for the New Academic Year, Welcoming 3,000 New Students
MPU held its Opening and Orientation Launching Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic year today, 21st August. The ceremony featured the raising of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem in a solemn atmosphere as it welcomed 3,000 new bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students from Macao as well as from across the nation and the Greater Bay Area, and from Portuguese-speaking countries and other parts of the globe. MPU is actively participating in the development of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town. Rector Marcus Im delivered an opening lecture to the new students, encouraging them to uphold the spirit of patriotism and love for Macao, and to contribute their wisdom and strength to the construction and development of the country and Macao. Olympic champions Jiao Liuyang and Zhang Yangyang spoke on behalf of the new students, expressing their commitment to integrate the athletes’ spirit of perseverance into their academic pursuits, to deepen their area of expertise and to bravely reach new heights of knowledge with a rigorous and pragmatic attitude.
