Visitor arrivals for December 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,943,930 in December 2023, up by 656.0% year-on-year and 13.9% month-on-month. Same-day visitors (1,485,901) and overnight visitors (1,458,029) leapt by 829.0% and 535.5% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors dropped by 0.9 day year-on-year to 1.2 days; the duration for overnight visitors (2.2 days) decreased by 1.4 days whereas that for same-day visitors (0.2 day) remained steady.

The three-day event “2024 Macao-Guangzhou Products Fair” concluded today (21 January). As the event was held before the Lunar New Year, both number of visitors and their shopping demand surged significantly. Some of the first-time exhibitors, satisfied with the sales volume, reported that they sold out the products on the second day of the event, reflecting that “Made in Macao”, “Macao Brand” and products from Portuguese-speaking countries were popular among Guangzhou citizens and tourists visiting Guangzhou. The Macao SAR Government today (19 December) held the 2023 Decorations, Medals and Certificates of Merit Awards Ceremony, where Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng presented awards to the recipients. Yonghua Song, rector of the University of Macau (UM), was awarded the Medal of Merit – Education in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the education sector.

[Product Promotion before CNY] “2024 Macao-Guangzhou Products Fair” Kicked off Today and Attracted a Large Number of Visitors on the First Day
Before the Chinese New Year, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau jointly hosted the “2024 Macao-Guangzhou Products Fair” at the Poly World Trade Expo Centre in Guangzhou, China, starting from today (19th) to 21st, with 123 booths and 59 Macao enterprises and 36 Guangzhou enterprises, exhibiting over a thousand types of products. As one of the best destinations for Guangzhou citizens to do shopping for the Spring Festival, the Fair attracted an endless stream of visitors on the first day due to the strong demand for Spring Festival shopping. In addition, an investment promotion seminar and business matching sessions were held to attract GBA enterprises to invest in Macao and Hengqin to explore business opportunities.

Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for November 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments went up by 38.5% year-on-year in November 2023; receipts of Western Restaurants and Chinese Restaurants surged by 74.7% and 52.5% respectively, whereas those of Japanese & Korean Restaurants dropped by 22.1%. Meanwhile, sales of the interviewed retailers rose by 45.7% year-on-year in November. All types of interviewed retailers registered a year-on-year increase in sales, with significant growth in the sales of Watches, Clocks & Jewellery Retailers (+78.2%), Department Stores (+73.9%), Cosmetics & Sanitary Articles Retailers (+65.8%) and Leather Goods Retailers (+58.4%).
