Arrangement of Outdoor Swimming Pools under Sports Bureau

Several outdoor public swimming pools under Sports Bureau (ID) such as Dr. Sun Yat Sen, Taipa Central Park, Cheoc Van and Hac Sa Park was closed on 31 October when the “bathing season” was over; Estoril, also known as San Fa Yuen, is closing on 30 November. During the off-season closure, ID will implement facilities and equipments maintenance at these outdoor swimming pools to enhance swimming environment for the public.


China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival concluded successfully

The “China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival”, integrated in the 5th “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), and co-organised by Galaxy Entertainment Group and SJM RESORTS, LIMITED, successfully presented screenings and various outreach activities. Themed “Dresses Galore in Films”, this edition of the Film Festival presented nearly 30 different types of film productions in Chinese and Portuguese, the unique charm of the cinematic world of China and the Portuguese-speaking countries showcasing to the public.



IFTM introduces Master's Degree (MSc) programmes in Chinese Medium

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) will add Chinese language as the medium of instruction to its repertoire of postgraduate programmes in the academic year 2024/2025. The new arrangements will be in effect after being published in MSAR Gazette.


Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 3rd quarter 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the numbers of full-time employees in Hotels (53,802), Restaurants (22,914) and Elderly Care (1,383) went up by 21.7%, 1.1% and 5.3% respectively year-on-year at the end of the third quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, numbers of those in Manufacturing (7,535) and Child-care (1,487) dropped by 6.5% and 1.5% respectively year-on-year, whereas number of those in Electricity, Gas & Water Supply (1,082) remained unchanged.


External merchandise trade statistics for October 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.34 billion in October 2023, up by 16.0% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP1.21 billion) grew by 17.9%, of which re-exports of Articles for casino and Diamond & diamond jewellery surged by 207.5% and 163.2% respectively, while those of Wine and Watches declined by 68.9% and 26.5% respectively. Value of domestic exports (MOP132 million) increased by 0.7%, of which domestic exports of Garments and Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals expanded by 14.3% and 12.8% respectively, while those of Copper & articles thereof dropped by 55.8%. Meanwhile, total merchandise import went down by 7.5% year-on-year to MOP11.74 billion; imports of Mobile phones, Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products and Perfumes reduced by 34.9%, 31.0% and 29.9% respectively, whereas imports of Articles for casino and Gold jewellery showed respective growth of 313.1% and 39.4%. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP10.40 billion in October.



UM honorary doctorate Ching-Ping Wong to give talk on polymers in electronic applications

The University of Macau (UM) will hold a Doctor honoris causa Lecture on 2 December (Saturday). Prof Ching-Ping Wong, a world-renowned scholar in electronic engineering, will give a talk titled ‘Polymers and Nano Materials for Electronic Application’. All are welcome to attend.


Exhibition “Epic Gaze” opens at Macao Museum of Art next Tuesday exhibiting representative works of internationally renowned photographer Candida Höfer

The exhibition “Candida Höfer: Epic Gaze”, organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be inaugurated on 5 December at 6:30pm on the first floor of the museum. The exhibition features a total of 60 photographic pieces by internationally renowned contemporary photographer Candida Höfer, including representative works from the past two decades and some of her more recent works, inspiring the public to reflect on how these spaces continue to shape and influence the collective memory of future generations through the presentation of different types of Western cultural architecture in different periods. All are welcome to visit.


MPU-Bell Centre of English Organizes AI Creative English Language Teaching Forum

To cultivate English talents and local English teachers for the moderate diversification of Macao's "1+4" economy, the Macao Polytechnic University held the "20th Anniversary of MPU-Bell Centre of English – Creative English Language Teaching Forum" on 24th November. Renowned English teaching scholars from the Greater Bay Area were invited to share their insights, exploring the potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in English teaching and the role of creative English teaching in the era of high technology, in order to promote high-quality development of education. Nearly 200 English teachers of Basic Education and from more than ten universities and schools in Macao attended the forum.
