The inauguration ceremony of Executive Director of the Board of Directors of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) Leong Wa Fong was held today (10 April) at IPIM’s office in the Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. Witnessed by Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong and Chief of Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance Ku Mei Leng, the ceremony was moderated by President of IPIM’s Board of Directors Vincent U, and attended by IPIM’s leaders and department heads.

The ‘Two Laws’ Ambassadors and Patriotism Team members of the residential colleges of the University of Macau (UM) visited the research vessel Zhong Shan Da Xue berthed at Gaolan Port in Zhuhai to learn about China’s cutting-edge technologies and advancements in various scientific fields, including deep-sea and deep-space exploration, oceanology, and meteorology, and to gain more insights into the importance of technological development to national security.

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), the 42^nd Macao Young Musicians Competition, dedicated to Chinese and Western instruments category, will be held from late July to mid-August. Applications will open from 10am on 26 April to 4pm on 6 May. For the convenience of participants, online registration is on the Competition website, in which eligible Macao residents are welcome to register for Chinese or Western instruments categories or vocal categories by entering their username and password of the “Macao One Account”. This year marks the 25^th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and the 31^st anniversary of the promulgation of the Macao Basic Law. It is also the year when the Patriotic Education Law of the People’s Republic of China has come into effect. The “One Country Two Systems” Research Centre of Macao Polytechnic University actively responds to the Macao SAR Government’s efforts to deepen patriotic education and holds a series of lectures of “Constitution and Basic Law on Campus” to educate local secondary school students on the Constitution, the Macau Basic Law and the Macao National Security Law. In accordance with the requirements in the Patriotic Education Law of the People’s Republic of China, relevant contents have been added in the lectures to educate students about the practice of “One Country, Two Systems” in the Macao SAR and to enhance their national fervour. The combination of legal and patriotic education has helped strengthen young people’s national consciousness and their awareness of the rule of law and national security. The lectures were welcomed and highly appreciated by the schools.

Co-organised by the Badminton Federation of Macau and Wynn Macau, the 2024 Macao Open Badminton Championships was held successfully. The Macao Polytechnic University Badminton Team demonstrated outstanding individual strength as well as stable teamwork, winning the championships in Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles. They also won the first runner-up in Mixed Doubles, achieving great success.

The signing ceremony of “Agreement between the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements” was held on 9^th April in the Macao SAR. The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Mr. Cheong Weng Chon, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Shakhrat Nuryshev, signed the Agreement on behalf of their respective governments.
