[Fostering Development of “1+4” Industries with Enhanced Internationalism] 2024MIECF Attracts About 60 International Exhibitors and 80 International Buyers from Nearly 30 Countries and Regions
As a professional exhibition accredited by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) is now embracing its 16th anniversary. Every year, MIECF keeps abreast of the environmental policies of the Central Government and the Macao SAR Government to introduce new elements into its activities and constantly enhances its internationalism and professionalism by attracting international exhibitors and buyers. The 2024MIECF has gathered over 60 international exhibitors from 13 countries and regions, seeking to inject more green momentum into the green transformation of the “1+4” key industries and the exploration of international business opportunities in the environmental sector, thereby continuously leveraging MIECF’s role as a green platform. In addition, about 80 international buyers from nearly 30 countries and regions will come to Macao to participate in the event and procurement meetings.

External merchandise trade statistics for February 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both merchandise import and export recorded year-on-year decreases in February 2024 due to the Lunar New Year holiday. Total merchandise export went down by 6.8% year-on-year to MOP965 million. Value of re-exports (MOP879 million) fell by 5.9%, of which re-exports of Wine and Machines, apparatus & parts reduced by 70.2% and 52.0% respectively, while those of Diamond & diamond jewellery surged by 93.6%. Value of domestic exports (MOP86 million) dropped by 14.6%, of which domestic exports of Garments and Copper & articles thereof declined by 57.9% and 33.2% respectively, while those of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals rose by 32.4%. Meanwhile, total merchandise import dipped by 28.0% year-on-year to MOP8.84 billion; imports of Mobile phones and Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products tumbled by 63.0% and 44.5% respectively, whereas imports of Motor cars and Articles for casino showed respective growth of 52.2% and 26.8%. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP7.87 billion in February.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for February 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 141 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in February 2024, an increase of 15 year-on-year. Total number of available guest rooms grew by 19.7% to 46,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms went up by 9.5 percentage points year-on-year to 85.6%; the rates for 5-star (89.1%) and 4-star hotels (80.1%) rose by 14.3 percentage points and 6.3 percentage points respectively, whereas the rate for 3-star hotels (79.1%) dropped by 3.1 percentage points.

CCAC detects alleged false asset declarations made by public servants
The CCAC received a report claiming that two public servants of the Social Welfare Bureau violated the provision of exclusivity by engaging in part-time work and provided false information in the declarations of assets and interests, thus allegedly violating the Legal Regime of Declaration of Assets and Interests.

MPU Careers Day 2024 Offering 4,000 Job Vacancies
On 26 March 2024, Macao Polytechnic University hosted the “MPU Careers Day 2024” to provide a one-stop career development platform for university students and establish diversified recruitment channels for corporations and organisations. The participating units in the career fair included over 140 institutions and companies from Macao, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and the Greater Bay Area, offering 4,000 job vacancies and internship opportunities. This event aimed to provide employment information and internship opportunities for students.

Macao Polytechnic University launched the second cohort of the “Nurse Assistant Training Course”
In compliance with the Macao SAR government’s policy to continuously improve livelihood services and the quality of life of residents, and in response to the needs of Macao medical institutions and caring institutions, the Macao Polytechnic University trains nursing assistants and improves the knowledge, skills and attitudes of caregivers to ensure the quality of care services. The Centre for Continuing Education of the Macao Polytechnic University launched the “Nursing Assistant Training Course” for the first time in 2023, and registrations were enthusiastic. In response to social needs, Macao Polytechnic University admitted the second cohort of “Nursing Assistant Training Course” this year to continue to provide systematic training for those who are interested in joining the health care profession.

Widely acclaimed programme “Fado Nights” concerts return with new performances and singers
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “Fado Nights” concerts attracted many residents and tourists and received high acclaim since their debut at the Dom Pedro V Theatre, a World Heritage site, in early March. In order to continuously enrich the cultural tourism of Macao and allow the public to appreciate the enchanting charm of Fado music, the “Fado Nights” concerts will return with a new round of performances from 7pm to 8pm, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, between 29 March and 5 May, featuring professional Fado singers Francisco Moreira and Marta de Sousa from Portugal.
