Concert “After the Romance” by the Macao Orchestra presentes masterpieces by Rachmaninoff and Barber ’s
Co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited and the six integrated resorts, the concert “After the Romance”, one of the concerts of the Macao Orchestra 2023-24 Season, will be held on Friday 22 March at 8:00pm at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Under the baton of conductor Yoel Levi, this concert will present wonderful works by 20th-century composers Sergei Rachmaninoff and Samuel Barber, with the cooperation of rising Japanese-American violinist Mayumi Kanagawa. Their performance will surely touch the audience by offering t a night of romantic music.

DSI launched online service for permanent resident identity card renewal on “Macao One Account” today

In order to facilitate the replacement of identity card for Macao residents, besides the seven government self-service centers for residents to lodge applications and collect documents using self-service kiosks, starting from 15th March 2024, DSI launched online service for permanent resident identity card renewal on “Macao One Account”, making residents get their documents done in only one visit.

The “Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2023MIECF)” has brought in green business opportunities for exhibitors from different countries and regions, including the Chinese Mainland, Portuguese-speaking countries, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR. These opportunities have allowed exhibitors to collaborate in a wide range of environmental protection sectors, such as new energy vehicles, charging piles, integrated photovoltaic-storage-charging technology, wastewater management, food waste recycling, carbon reduction. Some of the exhibitors have already signed co-operation agreements, or have already opened businesses in Macao. In order to capitalise on MIECF as a green business platform in the region, some exhibitors indicated that they would return and participate again in 2024. They also expressed their interest in strengthening their exchanges and partnerships with the international environmental industry in Portuguese-speaking countries, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as other provinces and municipalities in the Chinese Mainland, so as to explore and uncover new green business opportunities.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – February 2024

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (15 March) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP229.4 billion (USD28.45 billion) at the end of February 2024. The reserves increased by 1.7% from the revised value of MOP225.6 billion (USD28.02 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-February 2024 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 90.1% of pataca M2 at end-January 2024.

UM holds ceremony to mark acquisition of annotated edition of Os Lusíadas do Grande Luís de Camoens
In commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of the famous Portuguese poet and playwright Luís de Camões, the University of Macau Library (UM Library) held a book presentation ceremony to mark the acquisition of the annotated edition of Os Lusíadas do Grande Luís de Camoens published in 1613. The rare book, which has been included in the collection of the UM Library, contains what is believed to be the first biography of the poet.

Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 4th quarter 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the number of persons engaged in Wholesale & Retail Trade increased by 4.7% year-on-year to 68,551 at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023. Among them, 43,488 were working in Retail Trade, up by 6.0%. Meanwhile, persons engaged in the Transport, Storage & Communications sector (14,513) rose by 3.9% year-on-year, whereas those in Security Activities (12,755) and Public Sewage & Refuse Disposal Activities (919) dropped by 1.7% and 3.4% respectively.
