Transport and communications statistics for November 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 251,300 as at end-November 2023, up by 1.0% year-on-year; light automobiles (115,854) and heavy motorcycles (109,265) rose by 1.7% and 1.4% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in November went up by 3.2% year-on-year to 1,137 (241 were electric vehicles), of which light automobiles increased by 36.6% to 578 (105 of them were electric) while heavy motorcycles dropped by 21.6% to 480 (79 of them were electric). From January to November 2023, new registration of motor vehicles grew by 15.9% year-on-year to 10,867. Number of traffic accidents in November climbed by 20.8% year-on-year to 1,225, with 451 persons injured. In the first eleven months of 2023, there were 12,324 traffic accidents, which resulted in 7 deaths and 4,265 injuries.


Outreach activities of the Fringe Festival explore the infinite possibilities of art

The 22nd Macao City Fringe Festival held by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will stage 17 mesmerising programmes and a string of outreach activities, including workshops, exhibitions, seminars, exchange sessions, street performances, competitions, parades and music sharing sessions, to broaden the audience’s artistic horizons.


The 22nd Macao City Fringe Festival leads audience to artistic playground

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 22nd Macao City Fringe Festival will take place from 17 to 28 January 2024. Taking “artistic playground” as the theme, the festival will present 17 mesmerising performances and a string of outreach activities, leading the audience to find the most direct and simple happiness in a novel, bizarre yet fun-filled wonderland.


IAM adds informative signs in parks, gardens and trails to promote popular science education

Parks, gardens and trails are good spots for the public to go to for relaxation during the holidays. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) continuously promotes popular science information about environmental protection and ecology. In recent years, IAM has successively launched the optimisation work of popular science informative signs. In 2023, about 100 popular science informative signs were installed and optimised in multiple trails and parks. In the fourth quarter, more than 10 sessions of promotional and educational activities on mountain forest restoration were held.


Employment survey for September – November 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for September - November 2023 was 2.3% and the unemployment rate of local residents was 2.9%, down by 0.1 and 0.2 percentage points respectively from the previous period (August - October 2023). Besides, the underemployment rate dropped by 0.1 percentage point to 1.4%.


Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “Legislative Assembly Building Open Day”

To celebrate the Legislative Assembly Building Open Day, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at the Square of Legislative Assembly Building, from 10:00 to 18:00 on 6th January 2024, to provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “Legislative Assembly Building Open Day”.


【Multi-destination tourism】Macao–Hengqin Travel Stimulation Program welcomes applications from 1 January 2024

Against the backdrop of the General Plan for Building a Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, which creates favorable conditions for the diversification of Macao’s industries, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin jointly present the “Macao–Hengqin Travel Stimulation Program” (“the Program”). Applications are welcomed starting from 1 January 2024. The Program aims to encourage tourism operators’ development of multi-destination travel itineraries to Macao and Hengqin. At the first stage, the Program seeks to attract business travelers to Macao and Hengqin in group tours, to promote the tourism development of both destinations.


Subject to Increase in the Minimum Wage, the Upper and Lower Limits for Central Provident Fund’s Contributions to be Automatically Adjusted Starting Next Year

Under the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System, the upper and lower limits for the calculation base of joint provident fund scheme’s contributions, as well as the upper limit for the individual provident fund scheme’s contributions, will be automatically adjusted in accordance with the law subject to the increase in minimum wage to 7,072 patacas, starting 1 January 2024.


MPU and APQN Co-organise the 15th Higher Education International Conference to Explore the Development of Artificial Intelligence and Quality Assurance in Higher Education

The 15th Higher Education International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Pedagogical Transformation: Implications for Higher Education Quality Assurance, jointly organised by Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN), took place at the University on 11th to 13th December 2023. The conference brought together nearly one hundred experts and scholars from various countries and regions, including Portugal, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, as well as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. Together, they explored the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and pedagogical transformations on quality assurance in higher education. The conference has successfully provided a platform for scholars and experts in the field of quality assurance in higher education to share and exchange their knowledge and expertise in the field.
