UM, CICES jointly offer certificate courses
The Centre for Continuing Education of the University of Macau (UM) and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) (Hong Kong Region) jointly offer the Advanced Professional Diploma in Construction Commercial Management (Quantity Surveying). The course aims to enhance the professional knowledge of industry practitioners, so as to promote the development of the construction industry and facilitate Macao’s economic diversification.

Exhibition of Yun Shouping’s paintings and calligraphy to open at Macao Museum of Art next Friday to showcase the master’s ‘boneless’ painting technique
Jointly organized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Palace Museum and the Shanghai Museum, co-organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Macao Foundation and supported by the Macao Daily News, the exhibition ‘Yun Shouping: Paintings and Calligraphy from the Palace Museum and the Shanghai Museum’ will be unveiled at 6:30 p.m. on 1 September on the fourth floor of the Macao Museum of Art, and will feature over 180 landscape paintings, bird-and-flower paintings and calligraphic works by Qing dynasty painter Yun Shouping, his disciples and fellow artists. All are welcome to visit.

Employment Survey for May – July 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (2.6%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (3.3%) for May - July 2023 decreased by 0.2 percentage points from the previous period (April - June 2023). Besides, the underemployment rate dropped by 0.1 percentage point to 1.7%.
The labour force living in Macao totalled 372,800 and the labour force participation rate was 67.6%. Total employment was 363,000 and the number of employed residents totalled 282,900, up by 1,600 and 300 respectively from the previous period. Analysed by industry, employment in Retail Trade and the Construction sector increased, while that in the Transport & Storage sector decreased.

Gross Domestic Product for the 2nd quarter of 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the economy of Macao continued to recover, driven by the thriving tourism and gaming sectors. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) leapt by 117.5% year-on-year in real terms in the second quarter of 2023, marking the highest quarterly growth since the second quarter of 2021. Exports of services surged by 211.9% year-on-year, underpinned by the growth in exports of gaming services (+463.6%) and other tourism services (+157.5%). Imports of services and goods rose by 49.8% and 0.1% respectively, whereas exports of goods reduced by 32.8%. Domestic demand grew by 18.4% year-on-year, attributable to an increase of 47.8% in gross fixed capital formation. The implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, went up by 0.9% year-on-year. For the first half of 2023, GDP grew by 71.5% year-on-year in real terms, and the overall economic output of Macao returned to 71.0% of its level in the same period of 2019.

UM and renowned mainland universities jointly offer undergraduate programmes
The University of Macau (UM) offers joint undergraduate programmes in collaboration with several renowned universities in mainland China, such as Zhejiang University, Fudan University, South China University of Technology, East China Normal University, and Xiamen University. These programmes cover the fields of history, finance, mathematics education, biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, and civil engineering, with the aim of nurturing more high-calibre talent, raising the level of innovation and internationalisation of industries, and promoting economic development.

35th Macao International Music Festival offers an unforgettable feast preview Mobile music salon to be set up in the community at the end of the month
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 35th Macao International Music Festival, themed “Melodic Reconnections”, will be held from 30 September to 30 October, creating an unforgettable musical feast for music aficionados. The organiser launches a preview of four highlighted programmes, including Opera in Two Acts by Gioachino Rossini The Barber of Seville; two concerts Tom and Will and Legacies by The King’s Singers, and fado concert AuRora by Gisela João. In order to create the joyful atmosphere in the community, various sessions of community activity “Mobile Music Salon” themed around The Barber of Seville will be set up from the end of August to September, combing music, programmes and interactive elements, thereby allowing the public to feel the charm of music.

MICE statistics for the 2nd quarter of 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of MICE events leapt by 185.9% (or 171) year-on-year to 263 in the second quarter of 2023. The number of participants & attendees surged by 66.4% year-on-year to 509,000 owing to an increase in the number of large exhibitions.

Results of retail sales survey for the 2nd quarter of 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the value of retail sales increased by 64.3% year-on-year to MOP21.58 billion in the second quarter of 2023. After removing the effect of price changes, the sales volume index rose by 59.3% year-on-year.

Beware of “luck box” scam
The Judiciary Police (PJ) noticed that in neighboring regions, fraudsters impersonated online customer service representatives and used courier services to send out "luck boxes" randomly. After unboxing, the victim would find a card with the message "scan QR code to obtain red packets" and a QR code. Upon scanning the code, the victim would be transferred to a phishing website or a “brushing” scam group and be defrauded.
