Consumer price index (CPI) for July 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for July 2023 (104.76) grew by 0.78% year-on-year. The increment was attributed to higher charges for eating out and package tours, rising tuition fees, as well as increases in hotel room rates and clothing prices; yet, the rise was partially offset by lower rentals for dwellings and reduced airfares. Among the various sections of goods and services, the price indices of Education, Recreation & Culture and Clothing & Footwear climbed by 9.98%, 6.80% and 5.07% year-on-year respectively, whereas the indices of Transport and Housing & Fuels dropped by 4.38% and 1.74% respectively. The CPI-A (104.25) and CPI-B (105.43) recorded respective growth of 0.55% and 1.08 year-on-year.


Private sector construction and real estate transactions for the 2nd quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,368 building units and parking spaces were purchased and sold in the second quarter of 2023 as per Stamp Duty record, and the total value of transactions was MOP7.44 billion, up by 13.3% and 7.4% respectively quarter-to-quarter. Purchase and sale of residential units increased by 30 quarter-to-quarter to 878 units, and the total value went up by 3.4% to MOP5.78 billion. Number of existing residential units transacted (831 units) decreased by 1.4% and the transaction value (MOP5.48 billion) fell by 1.6%. On the other hand, transaction volume (47 units) and value (MOP 302 million) of pre-sale residential units surged by 840.0% and 1,018.5% respectively quarter-to-quarter.


IFTM welcomes nearly 600 new undergraduate and postgraduate students at the student orientation

Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) held a student orientation for the academic year 2023/2024 on 18 August, welcoming around 600 new undergraduate and postgraduate students from Macao, Mainland and beyond.


Entry registration of 70th Macau Grand Prix

The 70th Macau Grand Prix will be held on 11-12 and 16-19 November. Entries are open from 21 August to 15 September. Applications shall be made to the Automobile General Association Macao-China, located on the ground floor of the Macau Grand Prix Building at Avenida da Amizade, during the aforementioned date (9:30 am to 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday). The 2023 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2023MIECF) will be held from 17 to 20 August. One of the highlight activities, “Green Business Co-operation Day: Green Forum Session 1”, will be staged at 2:30pm on the first day of the event (17 August) at the Sicily Meeting Room in the Venetian Macao. Building on last year’s co-operation achievements, the Green Forum will be co-organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) once again under the theme of “Green x Innovation x Business Opportunities – Empowering the Sustainable Development of Bleisure Tourism”. Registration for the session is now open.


Evening concerts at Lai Chi Vun Shipyards in August present lively and poetic melodies

In order to promote public appreciation and participation in culture and arts, as well as to build more performance platforms for local artistic and cultural practitioners, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will hold evening concerts at Lai Chi Vun Shipyards in the second half of each month, between July and November, gathering musicians from various regions and different languages to present a variety of musical performances in different music genres and promote exchanges. The concert “lively and poetic melodies” will be held at 4pm on 19 August. Admission is free. Residents and tourists are welcome to participate.
