Applications are open for new phase of the special weekend market in the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards

In order to enrich the cultural tourism and leisure experience of the public and tourists, the Cultural Affairs Burau (IC) continues to hold a featured market in the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards – Plots X11-X15. Applications for stalls in new phase are open from today to 18 October. All interested parties are welcome to register and registration is free of charge.


Exhibition “Life under a Pen – Online Exhibition of the Centenary Birth Anniversary of Henrique de Senna Fernandes” to be launched on Friday

The year 2023 marks the centenary of the birth of renowned Macao writer Henrique de Senna Fernandes. The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) specially launches a special exhibition “Life under a Pen – Online Exhibition of the Centenary Birth Anniversary of Henrique de Senna Fernandes”, on the website of The House of Macao Literature, featuring a collection of over 132 exhibits. The online exhibition will be officially launched on 13 October. The public can browse the high-definition videos and images, as well as descriptions of the exhibits through the website of The House of Macao Literature (www.clm.gov.mo), reviewing the literary connotation of Henrique de Senna Fernandes and his personal achievements.


[Expanding Unlimited Business Opportunities] Brands Around the World Gather at “Macao Franchise Expo” to Expand Domestic and International Markets

Organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Macao Chain Stores & Franchise Association, and Macao International Brand Enterprise Commercial Association, the “2023 Macao Franchise Expo” (2023MFE) will be held at the Venetian Macao Cotai Expo from 19 to 22 October 2023. The theme of this year’s MFE is “Unleash the Power of Brands”.


First ABAMAPLP and ABAMACHINA meeting and International Forum on Chinese and Portuguese Languages to be held at UM

The first council meeting of the Academic Library Alliance between Macao Special Administrative Region and Portuguese-speaking Countries (ABAMAPLP) and the Academic Library Alliance for Portuguese Language Resources between Macao Special Administrative Region and Mainland China (ABAMACHINA) will be held at the University of Macau (UM) on 17 to19 October. The meeting aims to realise resource sharing and promote the development of the alliances. UM will also hold the First International Forum on Chinese and Portuguese Languages to create a global platform for interaction and exchange between the Portuguese and Chinese languages.


Round-trip bus service to the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards will be suspended on 14 and 15 October

Temporary traffic measures are implemented on Estrada de Lai Chi Vun from today to 20 October (Friday). The round-trip bus service to the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards provided by the Cultural Affairs Bureau will therefore be suspended on 14 and 15 October. Due to the emergency sewer repairs carried out by Municipal Affairs Bureau, the exit to Estrada de Lai Chin Vun in Coloane will be temporarily closed during the abovementioned period and the passage of vehicles over 5 metres long in length is not allowed. During the maintenance period, the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards - Plot X11 to X15 will remain open.

With the theme “More than Business”, the 28th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair, organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), will be held from 19 to 22 October 2023 at the Venetian Macao Cotai Expo.


Review of Culture International Edition Issue No. 72 Macao’s Cultural Identity in focus in the latest issue of the Review of Culture

In this issue, the Review of Culture highlights three works that were presented during the 2nd Annual Conference of Macao Studies 2022 organised by the Centre for Macau Studies of the University of Macau. The first two articles, through an analysis of music pieces and cinematographic productions, discuss Macao’s cultural identity before and after the handover and respective changes in the social fabric, respectively. The third article is centred on a colonial feminist theory and on the discourse of women in the 19th century, through an analysis of the first American female missionary visiting Macao.


UM holds China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Ocean Research and Education Symposium

The 2nd China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Ocean Research and Education Symposium is being held today (12 October) and tomorrow (13 October) at the University of Macau (UM). The symposium brings together several universities and research institutes in Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, and other Portuguese-speaking countries, which have the greatest influence in ocean science, along with more than 80 experts from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, government representatives, as well as students and faculty members from UM, to explore cutting-edge science, innovative theories, and ecological conservation in the field, with the aim of fostering exchanges, cooperation, and integrated development between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.


Mortgage loans statistics – August 2023

According to statistics released today (12 October) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both increased month-on-month in August 2023. With regard to the outstanding balances, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed declines on a monthly basis.
