UM’s FST Summer Camp broadens secondary school students’ research horizons

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the FST Summer Camp. It featured nine technology-related themes and attracted 240 students from 30 secondary schools in Macao. The summer camp was rich in content and enabled local secondary school students to learn about advanced research fields and broaden their horizons through a combination of lectures and hands-on experiences.



Distribution work of Wealth Partaking Scheme 2023 finished

The distribution work of 2023 Wealth Partaking Scheme had started on 4 July this year and finished on 4 August. In the course of implementation individual permanent resident and no-permanent resident received 10,000 patacas and 6,000 patacas respectively. Around 548 thousand beneficiaries had received the cash premium by means of bank transfer, accounting for about MOP 5.38 billion, while 188 thousand crossed cheques had been mailed, which summed up to around MOP 1.85 billion.


Payment card and mobile payment statistics – 2nd Quarter 2023

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the number and the value of transactions of local mobile payment tools witnessed annual increases in the second quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, the total numbers of personal credit cards and debit cards issued by banks in Macao both increased from a year ago. The credit card turnover rose whereas the debit card turnover dropped.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) held the “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” (“QTSAS” or the “Scheme”) Mid-phase Review Briefing Seminar for the Food and Beverage Sector and Travel Agency Sector days ago (3 August), to offer participating merchants a review of the inspections and assessments conducted for the first stage. In line with the Macao Courtesy Campaign, the seminar featured a special session to brief industry participants on the practice of courtesy and quality services to advocate the spirit of hospitality towards visitors.



Delegation from the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund Visits MPU to Promote Innovative Research Cooperation

To strengthen the promotion of collaborative development in innovative scientific and technological research, the delegation led by Cheang Kun Wai, the Acting President of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), visited Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) on July 27 and was warmly received by MPU Rector Im Sio Kei. The two sides held friendly discussions on talent cultivation, technology innovation, and industry-university-research matching projects.


UM organises health sciences summer camp for outstanding mainland students

The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) organised the Health Sciences Summer Camp for Outstanding Students of Mainland Universities 2023. The summer camp aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and interest in health sciences, and enable them to experience Macao’s culture and UM’s research environment, thus broadening their horizons of research.


Cultural Affairs Bureau continues to provide free bus service to the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards

In order to facilitate the journey of residents and tourists to the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards, the Cultural Affairs Bureau continues to provide the free bus service on Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays, from 5 August to 31 December. Seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.With reference to the use of the free bus from June to July and in order to make better use of the resources, the schedule and routes will be adjusted as: buses depart from Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo, Macao, at 2pm and 4pm, return at 7pm; while buses depart from Nova City, Taipa, at 2:30pm, and there is no return trip. People can park their vehicles at the Auto-Silo da Rotunda da Concórdia, located on Estrada de Seac Pai Van and walk to Lai Chi Vun Naval Shipyards. Tariffs for the use of parking spaces for light vehicles are, respectively, six patacas per hour during the day and three patacas per hour during the night. Residents and tourists can take the bus to the nearest stops and then walk to Shipyards, including Coloane Market (15, 21A and 26A), Coloane Village (25, 26, 50 and N3), PSP-2 (15, 21A, 25, 26, 26A, 50 and N3).


Macao Creative Pavilion participates in Cross-Strait (Xiamen) Cultural Industries Fair

The 14th Cross-Strait (Xiamen) Cultural Industries Fair (CCCIF) will be held from 4 to 7 August 2023. The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) of the Macao SAR Government has arranged for Macao’s cultural and creative entities to participate in the CCCIF. Through the establishment of the “Macao Creative Pavilion”, the IC endeavours to promote the signature cultural and creative products and services of Macao and facilitate exchanges in the sector between Fujian and Macao.
