External merchandise trade statistics for April 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise exports amounted to MOP1.22 billion in April 2024, up by 42.0% year-on-year. Value of re-exports rose by 50.5% to MOP1.10 billion, of which re-exports of Diamond & diamond jewellery and Garments grew by 344.6% and 52.0% respectively, while those of Articles for casino and Perfumes tumbled by 61.2% and 47.7%. Value of domestic exports dropped by 6.8% to MOP118 million, of which domestic exports of Copper & articles thereof and Bread, pastry, cakes, biscuits & other bakers' wares declined by 28.6% and 26.6% respectively, while those of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals rose by 48.3%. Meanwhile, total merchandise imports dipped by 4.3% year-on-year to MOP11.12 billion; imports of Construction materials, Watches and Mobile phones reduced by 33.6%, 23.0% and 17.2% respectively, whereas imports of Articles for casino and Motor cars showed respective growth of 140.9% and 51.3%. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP9.90 billion in April.




China scores first win at Women's Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group

The second day of Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Galaxy Entertainment Group, and the Volleyball Association of Macao, China got underway today (29 May) at the Galaxy Arena. Italy scored a straight-set victory over France, while China came from one set down to beat the Netherlands 3-1 behind the support of the home crowd.



[Macao-Hengqin Industries Synergy] MICE and Trade Events Are Organised to Strengthen the Integrated Development of Macao and Hengqin

In order to achieve the collaborative development of Macao’s “1+4” major industries and Hengqin’s “Four New” industries, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised nine Macao-Hengqin MICE and trade events in the first quarter this year, with the objectives of assisting enterprises to seize the development opportunities of these two regions. Giving full play to the “1+1>2” effects of Macao and Hengqin, these events were expected to give new stimulation to Macao’s appropriately diversified economy and to enhance the integrated development of Macao and Hengqin.


Estoril swimming pool temporarily closed from 1 June 2024

As the construction project of the Macao New Central Library has been awarded by the Public Works Bureau and is scheduled to commence, in order to ensure the health and safety of the public, the Estoril swimming pool that is adjacent to the construction site will be closed concurrently starting from 1 June 2024 until further notice. A series of improvement works of the swimming pool will be carried out during the closure of the facility to better meet the needs of users and relevant system.



Thailand and Brazil win on first matchday of Women's Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group

The Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Galaxy Entertainment Group, and the Volleyball Association of Macao, China commenced today (28 May) at the Galaxy Arena. Thailand kicked off the event with a 3-1 win over the Dominican Republic, while Brazil twice came back from behind to defeat Japan 3-2. Italy will meet France at 4 p.m. tomorrow (29 May) while host China will take on the Netherlands at 7:30 p.m.
