“Wealth Partaking Scheme 2024” distribution will be launched tomorrow (July 2)

The “Wealth Partaking Scheme 2024” will be launched from tomorrow until July 31. The subsidy will be made in two ways: bank transfer or mailing cross cheque, with 10,000 Patacas will be distributed to each of the 717,018 permanent residents, and 6,000 Patacas will be distributed to each of the 30,850 non-permanent residents.


MSAR Government strongly opposes authorities in Taiwan region for their defamation and smearing against Macao

The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government strongly opposes and severely condemns the authorities in Taiwan region for their “defamation and smearing in” in relation to their issuance of a travel warning on 27 June concerning Macao. It is seen as an act seeking arbitrarily to discredit Macao’s legal system for safeguarding national security, and seeking to distort Macao’s political and social development.


Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute Commences Operation on 1 July

According to Administrative Regulation No. 20/2024, the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute commences operation on 1 July 2024. It is a public legal person with administrative, financial and property autonomy, established as a result of the merger between the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, established in 1994, and the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), established in 2004, with a view to optimising the internal structure and enhancing service efficacy and efficiency.


【International exchange】MGTO participates in UN Tourism Meeting and 1st UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism

UN Tourism convened the 36th Joint Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific & the UN Tourism Commission for South Asia (36th CAP-CSA) and the First UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific in Cebu, the Philippines from 26 – 28 June. Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, attended the Joint Meeting, the Forum and related activities. She was also invited to participate in a panel session at the Forum.


UM scholar Yuen Ka Veng receives Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize

Yuen Ka Veng, Distinguished Professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at the University of Macau (UM), has been awarded the 15th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize by the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The prize, which is regarded as the most prestigious award in the field of engineering in China, aims to commend Chinese engineering and technology experts who have made major breakthroughs and remarkable achievements in the fields of engineering technology and engineering management. Prof Yuen is the only Macao scholar to receive the award, which also recognises the dedication and outstanding contributions of Macao scholars in the pursuit of research.

Coloane Karting Track extends opening hours starting from July 1, 2024

In order to align with the development of appropriate economic diversification of the Macao SAR government and to enrich the content of “Sports+”, the Sports Bureau will extend the opening hours of Coloane Karting Track starting from July 1, 2024 for more locals and visitors to experience the fun of kart racing, aiming to offer more options for sports and tourist experience in Macao by means of diversified sports activities. Adjusted opening hours is listed in the table below, locals and visitors are welcome to purchase tickets at the venue to experience the speed and excitement of karting activity.


Georgia grants visa-free access to Macao SAR Passport holders

The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region has received the notification from the Embassy of Georgia to the People’s Republic of China that holders of the Macao SAR Passport can enter Georgia without visa for a maximum stay of 30 days.


Transport and communications statistics for May 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 250,597 as at end-May 2024, up by 0.5% year-on-year, with light automobiles (116,842) rising by 2.3%. New registration of motor vehicles in May went up by 2.4% year-on-year to 1,057 (including 319 electric vehicles); of which, light automobiles increased by 34.7% to 633 (146 of them were electric), whereas heavy motorcycles dropped by 24.9% to 361 (116 of them were electric). In the first five months of 2024, new registration of motor vehicles grew by 2.4% year-on-year to 5,079 (1,552 of them were electric). Number of traffic accidents in May climbed by 48.9% year-on-year to 1,404, with 514 persons injured. In the first five months of 2024, there were 6,409 traffic accidents, which resulted in 2 deaths and 2,331 injuries.
