MICE Events in First Six Months Exceed Full-Year Figures of Last Year, Visitor Arrivals to Macao Surge15-Fold

In the first six months of 2023, more than 490 MICE events were held in Macao, exceeding 477 events held throughout last year, and the number of attendees reached over 700,000, indicating a year-on-year increase of 50%. It is expected that more than 1,000 MICE events are to be staged in Macao throughout this year, including over 100 events related to industries such as tourism, big health, high technology, modern finance, culture and sports. With priority placed on MICE events that facilitate the cultivation of the four major industries in Macao and key industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Macao has been endeavoring to introduce professional MICE events at the international and regional level, as well as from the Greater Bay Area, in particular, nine events are held in the “Multi-Venue Event” pattern.


UM recruits new batch of top international scholars

The University of Macau (UM) today (23 August) held the Welcome Reception and Orientation for New Academic Staff 2023/2024 to welcome a new batch of faculty members. As UM’s international reputation and influence continue to grow, more and more of the world’s outstanding academic staff are joining the university. For the new academic year, the university has recruited 71 top scholars from around the world.



Macao to ban import of aquatic food products, meat, vegetables and fruits from 10 prefectures and regions of Japan from tomorrow

In accordance with Chief Executive Writ of Instruction no. 134/2023 published in “Official Gazette of Macao Special Administrative Region” today (23 August), the import of live and fresh food products, food products of animal origin, sea salt and seaweed, including vegetables, fruits, milk and milk products, aquatic products and their derivatives, meat and meat products, poultry eggs, etc., from a total of 10 prefectures and regions, namely Fukushima Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, Tochigi Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Niigata Prefecture, Nagano Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture and Tokyo Metropolis, will be banned in Macao from tomorrow (24 August 2023).


Steady recovery of visitors to Macao, MGTO actively conducts promotion works to expand overseas markets

Since Macao lifted its travel restrictions at the beginning of this year, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) immediately launched promotion works in various tourist source markets, profusely carrying out promotions both online and offline, combining public and private forces and fascinating events every month, influencing a steady increase on the number of visitors; during summer season, the number of inbound visitors in Macao has further increased and the number of visitors has improved significantly.


Macao Orchestra opens 2023-24 concert season with acclaimed Korean pianist Yekwon Sunwoo

The Macao Orchestra (OM) 2023-24 Concert Season, co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Macao Orchestra Company, Limited, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, MGM, Sands China Ltd., SJM RESORTS, LIMITED, and Wynn Macau, Ltd., and with the support of the BOC Macau, will kick off with the concert “Lio Kuokman and Macao Orchestra” on 2 September 2023, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. The opening concert will feature the acclaimed Korean pianist Yekwon Sunwoo, under the baton of the Director of OM Lio Kuokman.


MSAR Government welcomes third issuance in Macao of offshore bonds by Guangdong Province

The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government welcomes the third issuance in Macao by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province of offshore bonds. Response to Japan’s announcement of launch of discharge of Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean

Japan announced that discharge of Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water will be launched in the next few days. The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government strongly deplores this. To safeguard the food safety and public health in Macao, the Macao SAR Government will adopt necessary measures to ban the import of live and fresh food products, food products of animal origin, sea salt and seaweed, including vegetables, fruits, milk and milk products, aquatic products and their derivatives, meat and meat products, poultry eggs, etc., from a total of 10 prefectures and regions, namely Fukushima Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, Tochigi Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Niigata Prefecture, Nagano Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture and Tokyo Metropolis, from 24 August 2023.
