Announcement of the 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition schedule
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition, dedicated to the piano category, will start on 30 July (Sunday). The provisional Competition schedule will be available from 10am on 16 June at the Macao Young Musicians Competition website www.icm.gov.mo/CJMM.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – May 2023
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP217.8 billion (USD26.98 billion) at the end of May 2023. The reserves increased by 2.0% from the revised value of MOP213.4 billion (USD26.40 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-May 2023 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 86.4% of pataca M2 at end-April 2023.

Government to hold opinion-gathering sessions on plan for appropriate economic diversification

The Government will from Thursday (15 June) hold several sessions dedicated to garnering opinions on a first proposal of the “Development Plan for Appropriate Economic Diversification of the Macao Special Administrative Region (2024-2028)”.

Blessing ceremony held for 2023 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races
Organised by the Sports Bureau, SJM Resorts, S.A. and the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China, and co-organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, the 2023 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races will be held on 17, 18 and 22 June at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre. A blessing ceremony was held by the Organizing Committee at the same venue at noon today (14 June) to pray for the success of this annual event.

28 Macao Enterprises Shine in the “Macao Week in Shandong•Qingdao” with Booming Sales
The five-day event of “Macao Week in Shandong•Qingdao” closed today (12 June). 28 Macao enterprises led by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) have harvested thrilling results in product sales. The products made in Macao, Macao brands and products from Portuguese-speaking countries are very popular with the consumers in Qingdao. Nearly half of the enterprises have sold out their products on the fourth day of the exhibition, keeping only a few samples for display and promotion; while other enterprises have dispatched more products to the exhibition for several times.

UM students join exchange trip to Peking University
To cultivate students’ love for China and Macao and strengthen communication between universities in Macao and Beijing, Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) of the University of Macau (UM) recently arranged for its teachers and students to visit Peking University on a seven-day exchange trip. The trip was themed ‘A Historical and Cultural Journey to Beijing’, where CYTC members attended lessons with members of Yuanpei College at Peking University and visited scenic spots and historical sites to gain a better understanding of Chinese history and culture.

Promote Macao's glamorous status — Delegates of 23 Cities of Gastronomy from worldwide gather in Macao for deeper collaboration
Since Macao lifted travel restrictions, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has been progressively restarting various international collaborations and exchange. This year, MGTO once again invites the representatives and chefs from 23 UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy including Macao for familiarization, exchange and culinary demonstrations to the public. They are also invited to participate in the City of Gastronomy Meeting and visit local wet markets, distinctive bazaars and tourist attractions, leveraging Macao as a platform to foster preservation, innovation and exchange between Creative Cities of Gastronomy as well as their sustainable development.

UM holds science popularisation talks to broaden high school students’ horizons in science
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), Associate Professor Tam Kin Yip and Research Assistant Professor Li Bei in the FHS gave talks on ‘Pharmaceutical Century – Ten Decades of Drug Discovery’ and ‘Body Chemistry Balance’, respectively, to over 300 students at Xin Hua School to enrich their knowledge and broaden their horizons in science.
