Stay vigilant against SMS of unknown origin to avoid falling prey to online investment traps

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has recently uncovered a scam where swindlers randomly send promotional SMS messages to residents, alleging they are senior analysts from some investment firms. They claim they have an investment plan with returns several times the initial amount and attach a link in the SMS for victims to contact them.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – July 2023

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (16 August) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP217.4 billion (USD27.07 billion) at the end of July 2023. The reserves increased by 0.8% from the revised value of MOP215.7 billion (USD26.72 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-July 2023 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 87.8% of pataca M2 at end-June 2023.


Results of visitor expenditure survey for the 2nd quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total spending of visitors (excluding gaming expenses) surged by 354.6% year-on-year to MOP17.48 billion in the second quarter of 2023. Total spending of overnight visitors (MOP14.58 billion) and same-day visitors (MOP2.90 billion) soared by 415.0% and 186.2% year-on-year respectively. In the first half of 2023, total spending of visitors amounted to MOP32.46 billion, an uplift of 210.9% year-on-year.


Tickets for Haojiang Moonlight Night – Dance Drama “The Eternal Wave” are on sale this Saturday

In celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Haojiang Moonlight Night – Dance Drama “The Eternal Wave” by Shanghai Dance Theatre will be held on 22 and 23 September, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Tickets will be on sale from 19 August (Saturday) through the Macau Ticketing Network. The dance drama is the selected programme of the National Art Troupes Performance Season in Macao, and is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, co-organized by the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, and coordinated by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism.

41st Macao Young Musicians Competition successfully concluded Tong Hou Long awarded Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize

The 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), was successfully concluded. The Special Prizes Competition and awards ceremony was held on 13 August at the Grand Hall of Inspiration Building of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies. On the occasion, three Special Prizes were presented by the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Cheang Kai Meng, and the Chief Executive of the Bank of China (Macau) - special supporting entity of the event, Chan Hio Peng.
