Mortgage loans statistics – March 2023

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both increased month-on-month in March 2023. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs dropped whereas CRELs witnessed an increase on a monthly basis.


The registration period for the exchange of the Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac banknotes and the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes terminating tomorrow

The online registration period for the exchange of the Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac banknotes and the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes will end at 6:00pm tomorrow (May 12). The Monetary Authority of Macao would like to remind those citizens who are interested in exchanging for the said banknotes to complete the registration process before the mentioned deadline.


Rental statistics for the 1st Quarter of 2023

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released, for the first time, the rental statistics on building units to enrich the statistical data on real estate market. According to the data, the average rent per square metre of usable area for residential units in Macao was MOP130 in the first quarter of 2023, down by 1.5% quarter-to-quarter. Among the major statistical districts, the average rents for residential units in ZAPE (MOP111), Areia Preta & Iao Hon (MOP125), Barra & Manduco (MOP128), Doca do Lamau (MOP148) and Baixa da Taipa (MOP130) decreased by 1.8%, 1.6%, 1.5%, 1.3% and 0.8% respectively.


Macao Polytechnic University Awards Scholarships to 600 Outstanding Students

The Macao Polytechnic University held the 2023 Scholarship Award Ceremony at the University Auditorium on April 22. Scholarships were awarded to 600 outstanding students to recognise their excellent achievements in different academic and professional fields, and to encourage students to continue to strive for academic excellence and motivation. MPU aims to cultivate young leaders who are creative and competitive with an international perspective to contribute to the country.


[“1+4” Diversified Development Strategy] Macao and Hengqin Constantly Expand Platform through Synergistic Development

In an effort to advocate for enterprises’ overall business deployment based on the Macao-Hengqin synergistic development whilst keeping in line with the “1+4” industrial layouts so as to further promote Macao’s appropriate economic diversification, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) teamed up with the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin (the Co-operation Zone) to conduct overseas investment promotion and field visits in Southeast Asia and Portuguese-speaking countries in succession during the period from March to April 2023. Recently, it is said that the representatives of Portugal’s chambers of commerce will pay a return visit to Macao and have field inspection in the Co-operation Zone soon.




Deputy Consul General of Belgium in Hong Kong visited MPU

The Deputy Consul General of Belgium in Hong Kong, Eva Morre, visited the Macao Polytechnic University on 5th May and was welcomed by the Vice-Rector of MPU, Dr. Vivian Lei, and other MPU members. The two sides exchanged views on higher education cooperation, student exchanges and academic collaboration projects between Macao and Belgium.


60 shop units at Macau New Neighbourhood in Hengqin now open for rental application

Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) is the first livelihood development in the Guangdong-Macau In-DepthCooperation Zonein Hengqin built for Macau residents, integrating a quality living space, schools, health station, seniors’ service centre, and family service centre. The completion of the project construction is expected in the early second half of this year and will feature approximately 60 shop units.


Commemorative Postmark Cancellation Service of “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day”

To celebrate the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at the Philatelic Shop of General Post Office, from 09:00 to 17:30 on 17th May 2023 to provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day”.
