The Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) held an “MICE Bidding and Support Team” meeting on 29 October 2024, the second one in this year, which was attended by the representatives from local MICE sector and six integrated tourism and leisure enterprises. The meeting aimed to facilitate discussions among members regarding the deployment of exhibition development strategies for 2025, to collaborate on securing more brand events next year, and to increase professional training programmes.

The 15^th Cross-Strait (Xiamen) Cultural Industries Fair (CCCIF) is held from 31 October to 3 November 2024. The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) of the Macao SAR Government has organised the participation of Macao’s cultural and creative entities in the CCCIF, in which it has set up the “Macao Creative Pavilion”, aiming to promote Macao’s brands and cultural and artistic products, showcasing the cultural connotation and creative achievements of Macao, and deepening regional exchanges between Fujian Province and Macao.

The Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) of the University of Macau (UM) held the Nobel Laureate Lecture today (5 November), featuring Thomas Sargent, Nobel laureate in economic sciences. Prof Sargent gave a talk titled ‘Sources of Artificial Intelligence’ and talked about the sources and development of artificial intelligence (AI). The talk was sponsored by the University of Macau Development Foundation (UMDF). It was well attended by UM students and faculty, industry practitioners, prominent members of the community, as well as members of the public.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), in cooperation with Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), has set up the “Macao Cultural and Creative Products Store” in the restricted area on the departure level of the Macau International Airport. IC is now calling for proposals from 5 November to 2 December. The selected candidates will be stationed at the “Macao Cultural and Creative Products Store” and coordinate the sale of local cultural and creative products for a period of four years.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the number of newly incorporated companies fell by 45 quarter-on-quarter to 1,134 in the third quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, total value of registered capital of the new companies surged by 66% quarter-on-quarter to MOP255 million, due to the incorporation of many pharmaceutical and related companies with relatively large capital. There were 234 companies dissolved in the third quarter, a decrease of 131 quarter-on-quarter. Number of companies showed a net increase of 900, up by 86 quarter-on-quarter.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population of Macao at the end of the third quarter of 2024 (686,600) increased by 5,300 year-on-year, due to a rise in the number of non-resident workers living in Macao. As regards the gender distribution, the female population (368,300) exceeded the male population (318,300), accounting for 53.6% of the total.
