【Expand international markets】MGTO launches free ticket offer of direct bus service from Hong Kong International Airport to Macao from 1 January

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will launch the free ticket offer of the direct bus service fromHong Kong International Airportto Macao starting on 1 January 2024, to encourage international and Taiwan region visitors in Hong Kong to extend their trip to Macao. The offer is set to spur twin-destinationtourism to Hong Kong and Macaowhile tappinga more diverse range of international visitor markets.


Expanding Macao's role as a Sino-Portuguese platform: The results of the 7th World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Competition are released

In order to further expand Macao's role as the “Sino-Portuguese platform” and to establish it as an “exchange and cooperation base with Chinese culture as the mainstream and multi-cultural coexistence”, and to enhance Macao's international influence, the 7th World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Competition (WCPTC), was successfully organized jointly by the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the Macao Polytechnic University. The event was supported by the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, the Asia-Pacific headquarters of the China Media Group (CMG), the Language Big Data Alliance (LBDA), and the Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council (CCISP). This year’s competition attracted enthusiastic participation from more than 100 teams representing more than 40 higher education institutions in mainland China, Macao, and Portuguese-speaking countries.


IAM adjusts operation time of station of Public Services Centres

To better integrate resources, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) adjusts the office hours of Islands District Public Services Centre – Seac Pai Van Station located in Avenida de Vale das Borboletas, Complexo Comunitário de Seac Pai Van, 6.˚ andar, Coloane. From 1 January next year, the station will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday and closed on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.



New Year’s Day holiday for slaughterhouse and slaughtering to suspend for one day

According to the notification from the Macau Slaughter House Ltd., it will be a one-day holiday for the slaughterhouse next Monday (1 January 2024). Slaughtering will resume normal on the next day (2 January). Businesses and consumers are advised to pay attention to the arrangement.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for November 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 141 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in November 2023, an increase of 22 year-on-year. Total number of available guest rooms grew by 26.3% to 46,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms hiked by 43.7 percentage points year-on-year to 82.3%; the rates for 2-star (88.9%) and 5-star hotels (82.7%) were relatively high, which showed respective growth of 37.6 percentage points and 47.2 percentage points.


Transport and communications statistics for November 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 251,300 as at end-November 2023, up by 1.0% year-on-year; light automobiles (115,854) and heavy motorcycles (109,265) rose by 1.7% and 1.4% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in November went up by 3.2% year-on-year to 1,137 (241 were electric vehicles), of which light automobiles increased by 36.6% to 578 (105 of them were electric) while heavy motorcycles dropped by 21.6% to 480 (79 of them were electric). From January to November 2023, new registration of motor vehicles grew by 15.9% year-on-year to 10,867. Number of traffic accidents in November climbed by 20.8% year-on-year to 1,225, with 451 persons injured. In the first eleven months of 2023, there were 12,324 traffic accidents, which resulted in 7 deaths and 4,265 injuries.


Outreach activities of the Fringe Festival explore the infinite possibilities of art

The 22nd Macao City Fringe Festival held by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will stage 17 mesmerising programmes and a string of outreach activities, including workshops, exhibitions, seminars, exchange sessions, street performances, competitions, parades and music sharing sessions, to broaden the audience’s artistic horizons.
