Mortgage loans statistics – August 2026
According to statistics released today (15 October) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) fell month-on-month whereas those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) increased in August 2026. With regard to the outstanding balances, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed declines on a monthly basis.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the Macao pataca – September 2026
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (15 October) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP245.0 billion (USD30.32 billion) at the end of September 2026. The reserves decreased by 0.3% from the revised value of MOP245.8 billion (USD30.43 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-September 2026 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 88.0% of the Macao pataca M2 at end-August 2026.

Macao Orchestra presents the concert “Rophé and Skride Perform 20th-century Masterpieces” featuring internationally acclaimed musicians
The Macao Orchestra’s concert “Rophé and Skride Perform 20th-century Masterpieces” will be held on 7 November (Saturday), at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Violinist Baiba Skride and the Macao Orchestra, under the baton of renowned French conductor Pascal Rophé, will perform Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in C-sharp Minor. The Macao Orchestra will also perform Debussy’s Symphonic Suite Printemps and Stravinsky’s orchestral masterpiece, Symphony in Three Movements. Tickets are now on sale through the Enjoy Macao Ticketing. Music aficionados are welcome to purchase tickets.

Guia Hill Cable Car to be temporarily closed from next Tuesday for annual safety check
To ensure the safety of the operation of the Guia Hill Cable Car facility, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will carry out annual maintenance of the cable car from 20 (next Tuesday) to 27 October. The cable car will be temporarily closed during this period. The public are reminded to take note of this arrangement.

Registration for the “Chinese Culture and I—Exploring Macao’s History through Cultural Creativity” Competition closes on 30 October Award-winning works will be turned into products
Registration for the “Chinese Culture and I—Exploring Macao’s History through Cultural Creativity” Competition, jointly organised by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, and coordinated by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the National Museum of China, closes on 30 October. Winners will receive cash prizes and certificates, ascending the total prize to MOP380,000. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the Competition, in order to create cultural and creative products showcasing entirely the Chinese culture and Macao’s characteristics. Entries for this Competition must focus on the “recommended cultural elements”, exploring the value and connotation of cultural resources from a cultural and creative perspective, highlighting Macao’s urban symbols and cultural characteristics, showcasing Macao’s positioning as “a base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist”. The products should meet modern aesthetic and consumer needs, with the combination of cultural elements and daily life, as well as originality, market potential and feasibility for mass production.
