UM hosts summer camp to offer academic and cultural experience in Macao
The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) at the University of Macau (UM) hosted the FSS Summer Camp for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The camp provided outstanding students from a number of leading universities with an immersive academic and cultural experience in Macao.

“Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale” held in Guangzhou after Beijing leg
Organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, and presented by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, and the China Arts and Entertainment Group Ltd., the “Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale” is open at the Art Museum of the Guangzhou Painting Academy from 26 July to 15 August. The opening ceremony was held on the evening of 25 July, with the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s Acting Vice President, Sou Kin Meng, alongside Macao participating artists Lou Kam Ieng, Ng Seng Kei, Sit Ka Kit, and others, in attendance.

IPIM Visits the Macao Chamber of Commerce to Discuss Macao’s Economic Development
President of the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) Che Weng Keong led a delegation from IPIM to visit the Macao Chamber of Commerce recently. During the visit, they introduced the key work plans for the second half of the year, listened to the chamber’s opinions, and engaged in discussions regarding industrial co-operation to jointly explore and discuss the economic development of Macao.

MGTO attends 65th APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting in Korea
On behalf of Macao, China, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) attended the65thAsia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Tourism Working Group Meeting, held in Korea from 29 to 31 July. During the meeting, MGTO presented Macao’s work to foster its development as a world centre of tourism and leisure through the sectors of “tourism +” and exchanged ideas with representatives of APEC’s member economies on the outlook of tourism, which elevated Macao’s influence and engagement with international tourism organizations.

Preliminary figures for gross domestic product for the second quarter of 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that, the economy of Macao returned to positive growth in the second quarter of 2025, driven by a strong recovery in exports of services, supported by surging visitor arrivals amid government efforts to boost visitation, alongside steady domestic private consumption. The preliminary figure for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded by 5.1% year-on-year in real terms to MOP100.38 billion in the second quarter of 2025. The overall economic output corresponded to 88.8% of the total in the same period of 2019.

2025 Central Provident Fund Withdrawals Begin Tomorrow – No Additional Procedures Required for Eligible Seniors
Starting tomorrow, 1 August, applications for the withdrawal of the 2025 Special Allocation from Budget Surplus under the Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System will be accepted. Seniors who have registered for automatic withdrawals and meet the eligibility criteria for payment will receive their payment without needing to complete any additional procedures. Other eligible individuals may submit their applications through channels such as the “Macao One Account”.

Employment survey for the second quarter of 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (1.9%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (2.5%) in the second quarter of 2025 remained the same as in the first quarter.

IPIM Organised a Delegation to Participate in the “Entrepreneurs Meeting for Commercial and Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” With 120 Business Matching Sessions Arranged and 6 Contracts Signed
The “Entrepreneurs Meeting for Commercial and Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries - Malabo - 2025” was held in Equatorial Guinea on 29 July local time, with the theme of “Industrialisation Promotes Agricultural Development” and brought together 500 political and business representatives from Chinese mainland, Portuguese-speaking Countries and Macao-Hengqin. It should be noted that Macao Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised a 40-member delegation to participate in the Meeting, which comprises entrepreneurs and representatives from the economic and trade sectors of Chinese mainland and Macao-Hengqin, engaged in trade, finance, cross-border e-commerce, agriculture, big health, medical technology, professional services and tourism.

2nd Macao International Children’s Arts Festival offers an additional session of the “Family Art Camp” An Astronaut’s Day explores science in theatre
Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government and organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the 2nd Macao International Children’s Arts Festival (MICAF) will offer an additional session for the widely popular “Family Art Camp”, from 23 to 24 August, with tickets going on sale from 10am on 3 August through the Enjoy Macao Ticketing. In addition, this week the play An Astronaut’s Day will be presented as well as screenings of numerous films at the Macao International Children’s Film Festival. The public is welcome to join the weekend parties of the “Little MICAF’s Paradise” joining in the fun and creating warm summer memories.
