[International Forum Makes Its Debut in Macao] Global Legal & Sustainable Timber Forum 2023 Opens

Co-hosted by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the Global Legal & Sustainable Timber Forum 2023 (GLSTF 2023) kicked off today (21 November) at the Galaxy International Convention Center in Macao. As the first timber-themed forum held in Macao, it attracted a total of 700 guests from 36 countries and regions to the opening ceremony.



Survey on manpower needs and wages for the 3rd quarter of 2023 – Financial activities

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 8,566 full-time employees in Financial Activities at the end of the third quarter of 2023. Among them, 7,281 were in the Banking Sector, 801 in Insurance Activities and 274 in Other Financial Intermediation, up by 1.8%, 4.8% and 10.5% respectively year-on-year.


Announcement of the selected proposal for “60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia – Collateral Event from Macao, China”

The selected proposal for the “60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia – Collateral Event from Macao, China”, organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), was announced. The exhibition proposal “Above Zobeide”, submitted by local curator Chang Chan and artist Wong Weng Cheong, was selected to represent Macao at the Biennale in Venice, Italy in April next year.


Beware of online concert ticket scams

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has received at least 22 reports of concert ticket scams over the past week, with 15 victims being students. Despite the high risks of being defrauded, some victims who were too eager to see their idol's performances still chose to engage in private transactions that required payment before receiving the goods.


Autumn Tap Siac Craft Market continues to be held from Thursday to Sunday

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the Autumn Tap Siac Craft Market will continue to be held from Thursday to Sunday (23 to 26 November) at Tap Siac Square, featuring a new group of cultural and creative brands. The public is welcome to participate in this cultural and creative event in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.


Renowned artists from the Central Academy of Fine Arts will give talks on art innovation in the age of AI at UM

As part of the University Lecture Series, the University of Macau (UM) will hold three lectures under the theme ‘art innovation in the age of AI’. The talks feature three renowned artists and educators from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), who will delve into various artistic fields. The talks will be conducted in Mandarin. All are welcome to join.


UM holds Macao Humanities Forum on Chinese poet Wang Anshi’s poems

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the Macao Humanities Forum. The event featured Yang Xiaoshan, department chair in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Notre Dame and holder of a PhD in comparative literature from Harvard University. Prof Yang delivered a lecture titled ‘The Lure and Peril of Contrarianism: Wang Anshi’s Poems on Wang Zhaojun’. The lecture attracted more than 200 on-site and online participants, including faculty members and students of UM.


Macao Polytechnic University Organises Creative English Language Teaching Forum to facilitate the development of English teaching in high-tech era

In order to support the “1+4” moderate economic diversification strategy of Macao SAR Government, and coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the MPU-Bell Centre of English, the Centre holds the Creative English Language Teaching (ELT) Forum on November 24, 2023. With generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) as the theme, the forum aims to provide educators from across schools and institutions with the opportunity to share experiences and insights on how to apply creativity in language learning. It will explore the potential of GenAI in the field of education and how to deal with new teaching challenges so that the colleagues in the profession can further their understanding of the role of AI in language teaching, and be ready for emerging trends in the development of English teaching.
