Renowned artists from the Central Academy of Fine Arts will give talks on art innovation in the age of AI at UM

As part of the University Lecture Series, the University of Macau (UM) will hold three lectures under the theme ‘art innovation in the age of AI’. The talks feature three renowned artists and educators from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), who will delve into various artistic fields. The talks will be conducted in Mandarin. All are welcome to join.


UM holds Macao Humanities Forum on Chinese poet Wang Anshi’s poems

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the Macao Humanities Forum. The event featured Yang Xiaoshan, department chair in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Notre Dame and holder of a PhD in comparative literature from Harvard University. Prof Yang delivered a lecture titled ‘The Lure and Peril of Contrarianism: Wang Anshi’s Poems on Wang Zhaojun’. The lecture attracted more than 200 on-site and online participants, including faculty members and students of UM.


Macao Polytechnic University Organises Creative English Language Teaching Forum to facilitate the development of English teaching in high-tech era

In order to support the “1+4” moderate economic diversification strategy of Macao SAR Government, and coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the MPU-Bell Centre of English, the Centre holds the Creative English Language Teaching (ELT) Forum on November 24, 2023. With generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) as the theme, the forum aims to provide educators from across schools and institutions with the opportunity to share experiences and insights on how to apply creativity in language learning. It will explore the potential of GenAI in the field of education and how to deal with new teaching challenges so that the colleagues in the profession can further their understanding of the role of AI in language teaching, and be ready for emerging trends in the development of English teaching.



IFTM students successfully organised heritage interpretation event – “Exploring the cultural path of Macanese community”

The Year 3 students of Bachelor’s Degree in Cultural and Heritage Management at Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) successfully organised a heritage interpretation event called “Exploring the cultural path of Macanese community”. It was held in Grand Hall at the IFTM Mong-Ha Campus on 17 November 2023 and attracted attendees who are interested in culture. The event organised a series of activities including drama, sharing sessions, workshops, Macanese cuisine cooking demonstration, and exhibitions, which allow the participants to have a deeper understanding of the historical and social value of Macanese culture. The event invited three Macanese guests, including Mr. José Maria Pereira Coutinho, a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr. António Monteiro, the President of the Board of Directors of Macanese Youth Association and Mrs. Madeira da Silva Pedruco, the winner of the 1993 Miss Macao, to share their insights and experiences of Macanese culture transmission. Such perspectives provided the audience a better understanding on the traditions and cultural uniqueness of Macanese community.


[Investment Promotion] Total Investment Amount in First Ten Months Exceeded Last Year’s Annual Figure: 213 Investment Projects Creat 805 Jobs

Investment promotion is a significant engine boosting the appropriate economic diversification. In the first ten months of this year, the Investor’s “One-stop” Service of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) received 292 new investment proposals and assisted 213 of them, which created 805 jobs and involved investments amounting to MOP 1.299 billion, exceeding the annual investment amount of 2022. More than 40% (91 projects) of the assisted investment projects are related to the “1+4” industries.



UM holds International Collegiate Programming Contest

The Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the 2023 International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) (Asia Macau Regional Contest), with the aim of promoting exchange of programming skills, and enhancing students’ interest in computer programming. The regional contest in Macao drew the participation of 82 teams from 67 renowned universities and from 8 secondary schools in China. Approximately 300 students and teachers gathered at UM to compete for the regional championship and exchange ideas on programming skills.



Exhibition “Centennial Retrospective of Lok Cheong’s Art” opens at Macao Museum of Art next Friday

Organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) under the Cultural Affairs Bureau and co-organised by the Macau Artist Society, the exhibition “Centennial Retrospective of Lok Cheong’s Art” will be inaugurated on 24 November, at 5:30pm, on the third floor of the Macao Museum of Art. The exhibition presents a total of 150 artworks which include paintings by renowned Macao painter Lok Cheong, as well as some of his sketches and his friends’ remarkable works which are exhibited for the first time. The artworks include oil paintings, watercolours, Chinese paintings, drawings, manuscripts and documents, comprehensively displaying Lok Cheong’s artistic career and achievements over 50 years since the 1950s. Residents are welcome to visit the exhibition.
