Tourism + Sports: MGTO and Madame Tussauds Hong Kong collaborate to debut racers’ wax figures at Macao Grand Prix Museum in late March
As the Macau Grand Prix celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Madame Tussauds Hong Kong join hands to debut the fascinating wax figures modelled after eight accomplished racing drivers at the Macao Grand Prix Museum (the “Museum”) in late March, set to boost the charm of the Museum and enrich museumgoers’ experience. MGTO strategically harnesses the Macau Grand Prix’s unique glamour in destination marketing as part of its commitment to integrate “tourism + sports” and other sectors, in parallel with the SAR Government’s development strategy of “1+4” adequate diversification.

Crime-case statistics show 2022 tally the lowest in four years

Crime-case statistics recorded by the police show year-on-year decreases in full-year 2022 in a number of crime categories. The data show Macao remains a secure and safe city, said today the Secretary for Security, Mr Wong Sio Chak.

Exhibition “Fang Lijun: The Light of Dust” opens at Macao Museum of Art showing insights into life through “Human and Figures”
The exhibition “Fang Lijun: The Light of Dust” was inaugurated on 3 March at the Macao Museum of Art (MAM). The opening ceremony was officiated by the Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, Wan Sucheng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Leong Wai Man;; the President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei; the President of Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau, Carlos Marreiros; the featured artist Fang Lijun; the Secretary of the Communist Party and General Manager of the Luzhou Laojiao Sales Co., Ltd., Zhang Biao and the curator Luo Yi. The event was held in a lively atmosphere.

New features of “My Library” mobile application include online payment, account application and multi-account management
The Macao Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau has optimised the mobile application “My library” by adding functions which include online payment, library card application and renewal, and multi-account management. By providing intelligent library services and software facilities in response to the SAR Government’s electronic service initiative, the Library hopes to facilitate residents in handling relevant procedures without visiting the Library in person, thereby bolstering an ambience of city-wide reading.

Cultural Affairs Bureau organises the initiative “Craft Market in the Greater Bay Area” in Guangzhou for two consecutive weeks to promote Macao’s cultural and creative brands
In order to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the cultural and creative industries sector in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) holds the activity “Craft Market in the Greater Bay Area” and organises the participation of local cultural and creative entities in the Guangzhou Zili Market from 3 to 5 March and 10 to 12 March, promoting Macao’s cultural and creative products.

UM, ZJU offer ‘2+4’dual degree programme to nurture professionals in clinical medicine
Over the years, the University of Macau (UM) has launched various dual degree programmes with well-known universities in China and overseas to cultivate outstanding students. Among them, the ‘2+4’ bachelor’s degree programme in biomedical sciences and clinical medicine jointly offered by UM and Zhejiang University (ZJU) allows students with a passion in medicine to enroll in the clinical medicine programme at ZJU’s School of Medicine. Graduates of this joint programme will receive a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from UM and a bachelor’s degree in clinical medicine from ZJU.

Gross domestic product for the 4th quarter and the whole year of 2022
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracted by 23.4% year-on-year in real terms in the fourth quarter of 2022. External demand remained sluggish. Owing to a 31.5% fall in the number of visitor arrivals, exports of services dropped by 27.1% year-on-year, of which exports of gaming services and exports of other tourism services declined by 46.6% and 30.5% respectively. In addition, exports of goods decreased by 14.1%. As regards domestic demand, gross fixed capital formation and private consumption expenditure went down by 13.9% and 10.5% year-on-year respectively, while government final consumption expenditure grew by 1.9%.
