Competition repertoire and age requirements announced for the 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition Registration through the “Macao One Account” to access for the convenience of the participants
The 41st Macao Young Musicians Competition, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, dedicated to the piano category, will be held from mid-July to mid-August this year, and the competition repertoire and age requirements for all competition categories have now been announced. In order to access the online registration system of the Competition, all interested participants must register through their account of the “Macao One Account”. All interested piano students who hold a Macao Resident Identity Card are welcome to visit the Macao Young Musicians Competition website at www.icm.gov.mo/CJMM for more details.

Tourist price index (TPI) for the 1st quarter of 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the first quarter of 2023 grew by 18.16% year-on-year to 138.20, on account of higher hotel room rates and airfares. Among the various sections of goods and services, price index of Accommodation rose by 124.89% year-on-year, while the indices of Entertainment & Cultural Activities and Transport & Communications increased by 15.68% and 8.11% respectively.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – March 2023
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP215.1 billion (USD26.60 billion) at the end of March 2023. The reserves decreased by 0.8% from the revised value of MOP216.9 billion (USD26.84 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-March 2023 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 84.1% of pataca M2 at end-February 2023.

The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce teamed up to launch the “Business Matching Sessions for Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Wine (Chengdu Station)” yesterday (13 April) at the 108th China Food & Drinks Fair (CFDF). This event successfully assists Macao enterprises in expanding the wine market in southwest China by leveraging Macao’s role as a distribution centre of Portuguese-speaking Countries’ food products.

Online registration for the exchange of the Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac banknotes and the XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes commencing soon

The online registration for the exchange of the Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac banknotes and the previously issued XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes will commence at 9:00 am on 17 April 2023. Each Macao resident can conduct a single registration for the exchange via the Authority’s website, and the registration will end at 6:00 pm on 12 May 2023.

Applications are open for Macao Creative Pavilion in China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair
The 19th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) will be held in early June 2023 in Shenzhen. The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will arrange for Macao’s cultural and creative industries to participate in this exhibition. Through the establishment of the Macao Creative Pavilion, IC endeavours to promote Macao’s cultural and creative products and services and facilitate industry exchange and development. Applications are now open until 12 p.m. on 19 April. Local organisations or companies in the cultural and creative industries are welcome to submit applications.

“City of Reading” Activity Series kicks off to foster an ambience of citywide reading
In order to continuously promote the concept of “enriching life through reading” and with the aim of building Macao into a “City of Reading”, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) has been making great efforts to optimise the software and hardware facilities in public libraries, extending reading activities to more people in the community by launching the “Young Children Reading Programme”, organising promotional activities including the “Macao Library Week 2023” and “Reading in the City”, and has joined hands with the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) to launch a reading incentive programme to foster reading habits among children and teenagers and promote family reading. Through the series of measures dedicated to encouraging reading, IC hopes to further cultivate the reading ambience across the city.

Macao Library Week 2023 launches several activities to promote reading in the community making reading part of the city landscape
The “Macao Library Week 2023”, jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), the University of Macau Library and the Macao Library and Information Management Association, will promote a series of reading activities from 15 April to 14 May. The carnival-style promotional days will be held on 22 and 23 April (Saturday and Sunday) at the Macao Cultural Centre, offering a book exchange, booth games and a book fair, among others, so as to encourage more residents to develop a reading habit. All are welcome to participate.
