Transport and communications statistics for February 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 249,685 as at end-February 2023, up by 0.7% year-on-year; light automobiles (114,112) and heavy motorcycles (108,369) rose by 0.8% and 1.9% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in February went up by 27.2% year-on-year to 917 (264 of them were electric), with that of heavy motorcycles rising by 38.7% to 566 (132 of them were electric). In the first two months of 2023, new registration of motor vehicles fell by 13.8% year-on-year to 1,701. Number of traffic accidents in February increased by 19.8% year-on-year to 986, with 332 persons injured. In the first two months of 2023, there were 2,058 traffic accidents, which resulted in 2 deaths and 659 injuries.

DSI’s measure to increase application service time ends today

In order to respond to the demand for application service from citizens, the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) has extended service hours to 9 p.m. and opens on Saturday and Sunday to receive applications for identity cards and travel documents since 7th February. As there is a significant decline in appointments for lodging application in the extended service hours recently, the measure to increase application service time ends today (31st March). With the support of the Municipal Affairs Bureau, DSI has received over 64,000 applications for identity card and travel documents.

IAM calls on the public to check their air-conditioners and prevent water dripping from affecting the environment
As the weather starts to get hot, some members of the public have already started using air-conditioners. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) calls on the public to check the drain pipes before using the air-conditioners and ask professional air-conditioner technicians to perform checks and repairs as soon as possible if there is water dripping from them, so as to avoid affecting the hygiene of the public environment.

Macao Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong attended the opening ceremony of the “Annual Conference of the Boao Forum for Asia 2023” in Hainan today (March 30) and listened to the keynote speech by Premier of the State Council Li Qiang. During his stay in Hainan, the Secretary for Economy and Finance met with the Vice Governor of Hainan Province Ni Qiang, and visited the Exhibition Hall introducing the Jiangdong New District in Haikou.

Attracting international visitors — MGTO coordinates more Macao familiarization visits by two Hong Kong travel trade associations
Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) invited the Hong Kong Japanese Tour Operators Association and the Society of the Golden Keys of Hong Kong to visit Macao for familiarization this month. Comprising about 70 members, the two delegations visited various tourist attractions, hotels and tourism facilities in Macao. The Office seeks to garner the associations’ support in drawing Japanese and international visitors for twin-destination travel to Hong Kong and Macao, in turn diversifying source markets.

Team entries for 2023 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races to end tomorrow
