Female golden snub-nosed monkey in Seac Pai Van Park passes away from illness

The female golden snub-nosed monkey kept in Seac Pai Van Park showed an obvious decrease in appetite early this month. In addition to carrying out examinations and feeding it with medication, the veterinarians of the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) also consulted experts in Mainland China and Hong Kong for treatment advice. However, the mother monkey passed away a few days ago. It gave birth to two little golden snub-nosed monkeys in 2020 and 2022.


“hush! Concerts 2022” present various music activities

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) and co-organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Marine and Water Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, the “hush! Concerts 2022” will present six different music activities from late October to mid-November and all the residents who are interested in music creation are welcome to participate and collaborate with musicians to promote the development of local pop music.


34th Macao International Music Festival concert Long Yu and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra will be cancelled English sacred music on show this week

Due to the epidemic prevention and control measures in Mainland China and to the fact that the artistic group will not be able to visit Macao, the programme Long Yu and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, integrated in 34th Macao International Music Festival, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be cancelled. IC will arrange refunds for those who have purchased tickets for the programme. The recorded programme English Renaissance Polyphony – a survey will be on show as scheduled this week and ticket holders are advised to attend on time.


IFTM students conduct researches and develop ideas for the annual Chestnuts Festival

This year, the IFTM Year 4 students from the Tourism Business Management programme engaged in an industrial project via their entrepreneurship course to assist a local entrepreneur, James Sun, who established and runs the Best Concepts Planning Limited. This company conducts a series of projects in Macao, including the “Festival Das Castanhas” which is the Chestnuts Festival that will take place for three days on Broadway Hotel’ s food street from 11 to 13 November.


Mortgage loans statistics – August 2022

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both increased in August 2022. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs dropped whereas CRELs witnessed an increase.


UM holds Macao Humanities Forum on systemic ecolinguistics

The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) recently held the Macao Humanities Forum. The event featured Huang Guowen, dean of the School of Foreign Studies at South China Agricultural University and Changjiang Distinguished Professor, who delivered a lecture titled ‘Systemic Ecolinguistics and Harmonious Discourse Analysis’. Involving both in-person and virtual elements, the lecture attracted nearly 200 participants, including faculty members and students of UM.


Reopening of Taipa Northeast Sports Centre

Starting from 12 Oct 2022 (Wednesday), pavillion and tennis court of Taipa Northeast Sports Centre will be reopened and online booking service will be resumed for residents to continue sports exercise. Meanwhile, squash court of Taipa Northeast Sports Centre is currently under maintenance and will be reopened once the repair work has completed.

Portuguese linguist João Veloso assumes office as head of UM Department of Portuguese

The University of Macau (UM) has appointed João Veloso, a renowned Portuguese linguist, as head of the Department of Portuguese of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Prof Veloso was a pro-rector of the University of Porto, one of the three major universities in Portugal, and has served as president or director of different academic associations for linguists and teachers in Portugal, with extensive experience in teaching, research, management, and knowledge transfer. According to him, he will take advantage of the unique strengths of the Department of Portuguese to develop new strategies for teaching and research to train more bilingual professionals in Chinese and Portuguese.
