Survey on manpower needs and wages for the 3rd quarter of 2022 – Financial activities

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages of Financial Activities for the third quarter of 2022. The Survey covers the Banking Sector, Other Financial Intermediation, Insurance Activities, and Activities Auxiliary to Financial Intermediation, including financial institutions supervised by the Monetary Authority of Macao, but excluding insurance agents and brokers not directly employed by insurance companies.

Direct investment statistics for 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that inward direct investment flows in Macao totalled MOP 38.20 billion in 2021. Analysed by industry, inflows of direct investment in the Gaming Sector, Financial Activities and Wholesale & Retail Trade stood at MOP 16.96 billion, MOP 14.93 billion and MOP 4.74 billion respectively. Analysed by immediate source of investment, capital came mainly from the British Virgin Islands (MOP 18.39 billion), Hong Kong (MOP 11.95 billion) and mainland China (MOP 9.53 billion).


Visitor arrivals for October 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals grew by 4.0% month-on-month to 580,333 in October 2022; besides, the figure represented a surge of 76.8% year-on-year, on account of a relatively low base of comparison in October last year which resulted from the pandemic. Overnight visitors (313,542) and same-day visitors (266,791) leapt by 181.4% and 23.0% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.5 day year-on-year to 1.8 days; the duration for overnight visitors (3.2 days) went down by 4.0 days, whereas that for same-day visitors (0.2 day) increased by 0.1 day.


Consumer price index (CPI) for October 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for October 2022 (103.88) increased by 1.02% year-on-year. The increment was attributed to higher wages of domestic helpers and tuition fees, rising charges for eating out, as well as dearer prices of gasoline and fruits; yet, the rise was partially offset by lower rentals for dwellings and reduced charges for telecommunication services. Among the various sections of goods and services, price indices of Household Furnishings & Services and Education grew by 12.70% and 10.02% year-on-year respectively, whereas the index of Communication decreased by 9.28%. The CPI-A (103.49) and CPI-B (104.41) saw respective growth of 0.66% and 1.50% year-on-year.


UM, BOC join hands to promote science education at various secondary schools

The BOC STEM Talent Challenge, an event co-organised by the Macao Base for Primary & Secondary STEM Education, a national science education base, and the Alumni and Development Office, with sponsorship from the Bank of China (BOC) Macau Branch, will take place from September 2022 to June 2023. As part of the challenge, the On-the-Go Project has been launched and science demonstration activities were recently held at four local schools, namely Lou Hau High School, Pui Ching Middle School, Keang Peng School, and Kao Yip Middle School. The activities attracted more than 500 teachers and students from primary and secondary schools.



Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “23rd Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region”

To celebrate the 23rd Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at the Philatelic Shop of General Post Office from 09:00 to 14:00 on 20th December 2022, to provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “23rd Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region”. A commemorative envelope priced at MOP3.00 will be issued.
