MSAR Government announces provisional results of open bidding for casino concessions

Under Executive Order No. 136/2022, the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government had commenced on 29 July 2022 a new public tender for gaming concessions. Today (26 November), Executive Order No. 205/2022 has been promulgated to announce the list of the provisional awardees of casino concessions.


Macao Polytechnic University Signed Cooperation Agreement with the University of Coimbra, Portugal, to Promote Advanced Technologies in Smart Cities

The Macao Polytechnic University and the University of Coimbra, Portugal, held a ceremony at 18:00 on 24 November to sign a cooperation agreement to establish the MPU-UC Joint Research Laboratory in Advanced Technologies for Smart Cities (10:00 AM in Portugal time). This joint effort aims to further strengthen their collaboration in the training of technological and innovative talents, thereby helping Macao to accelerate the construction of smart cities, and promoting stronger ties between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in the fields of higher education and technological innovation. The agreement was signed by Professor Im Sio Kei, Rector of the Macao Polytechnic University, and Professor Amílcar Falcão, Rector of the University of Coimbra. This agreement capitalizes on the strengths of both parties in the fields of computer sciences, artificial intelligence, and information technology. It also provides a platform for technical innovations and training of talented engineers and scientists, who can make contribution to other scientific projects between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. More than 100 teachers and students from the two universities attended this ceremony.



UM establishes Macao Car Racing Metaverse Platform to promote research on new autonomous driving technologies

The University of Macau (UM) State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC) and Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) today (25 November) held an inauguration ceremony for the Macao Car Racing Metaverse (MoCAM) Platform cum an opening ceremony for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Metaverse Autonomous Driving Challenge. During the event, which combined both virtual and in-person elements, a metaverse-based platform that allows for the superimposition of real autonomous driving vehicles in simulated scenarios was demonstrated. The platform is expected to promote the research and development of new autonomous driving technologies and provide an ideal experimental environment for autonomous driving competitions, laying the ground for the development of e-sports and diversified tourism in Macao.


ARTwarming Winter at CCM Jolliest Christmas is back in town

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is launching the ARTwarming Winter, kicking off its newest edition with Arty Christmas, an artistic jamboree for all ages. This holiday celebration lasts till early next year with the staging of two children’s shows, inviting kids and their families to join the sensorial baby theatre Sweet Dream in the Woods and the popular puppetry parade The Very Hungry Caterpillar.




MICE statistics for the 3rd quarter of 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 70 MICE events were held in Macao in the third quarter of 2022, a decrease of 1 year-on-year. Number of participants & attendees surged by 50.8% year-on-year to 341,000 on account of an increase in exhibition attendees.


Employment survey for August-October 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate (3.9%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (5.0%) for August-October 2022 decreased by 0.1 and 0.2 percentage points respectively from the previous period (July-September 2022), marking a drop for two consecutive periods. Besides, the underemployment rate plunged by 10.0 percentage points to 6.5%.


Marguerite Wonderland – Winter Flower Show 2022

To celebrate the return of Macao to the motherland, enrich the leisure life of the public, and increase characteristic tourism resources, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will hold the Winter Flower Show 2022 under the theme of “Marguerite Wonderland” from 16 December 2022 to 1 January 2023. A series of mysterious gardens with a romantic atmosphere as the main theme and to be unfolded along visitors’ leisure-paced walks will be displayed at the main venue for flower exhibition in Avenida da Praia, Taipa. At the same time, marguerites (that is, oxeye daisies) and other festive flowers will be placed in the major parks and gardens, as well as green median strips across Macao, filling the city with festive atmosphere.
