FDCT Launches Quality Training for Staff to Enhance Professionalism
In an effort to strengthen the professional capacity of the staff, improve their scientific literacy, and cultivate their integrity quality, the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) has been conducting a series of training lectures on professional knowledge related to science and technology expertise and integrity awareness. It is mandatory for all the FDCT staff to participate in this collective training series each month.

IPIM Leads Macao MICE Delegation to Attend CEFCO 2023
The 18th China Expo Forum for International Co-operation (CEFCO 2023) was held from 24 to 25 April in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised a delegation comprising 19 Macao MICE representatives to attend the event in Shaoxing, aiming to facilitate the exchange between Macao’s MICE sector and their counterparts outside Macao, jointly promoting Macao’s MICE advantages, and seek more opportunities for further development of Macao MICE industry.

Postponement of the 70th Macau Grand Prix – Family Carnival
The Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee announced that the 70th Macau Grand Prix - Family Carnival, originally scheduled to be held on 29 to 30 April, has been postponed due to foreseeable unstable weather. The rescheduled date will be announced in due course.

CE meets Deputy Secretary General for Economic and Global Issues of EU’s EEAS
While in Brussels, Belgium, the Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, met with Deputy Secretary General for Economic and Global Issues for the European External Action Service (EEAS) of the European Union (EU), Ms Helena König. The two officials exchanged views on topics including the strengthening of trade cooperation between Macao and the EU, and post-pandemic economic recovery.

The 33rd issue of Books and the City, published by the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is now available to the public. The Public Library is committed to fostering an ambience of reading in Macao, encouraging the public to have reading habits and nourishing their spirit and mind. Themed “City of Reading”, this issue of Books and the City invites experts to share their opinions on the importance of reading, analyse the reading interests of people of different ages, and explain how to define their reading manner and genres that suitable them most.

CCAC announces latest face mask measure
The CCAC states that in line with the latest measures regarding face masks and the relevant guidelines announced by the Macao SAR Government, starting from 28th April 2023, whoever having flu symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, sore throat, cough or runny nose, or testing positive by rapid antigen test or nucleic acid test for novel coronavirus must wear a face mask if he enters the CCAC’s facilities. Those who not having the said symptoms are advised to wear face masks. The CCAC would like to call for all residents’ attention to the relevant arrangement and cooperation.

IAM sets up 60 temporary collection points for large unwanted furniture items
To facilitate the public’s disposal of large unwanted furniture items, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will set up 60 temporary collection points for large unwanted furniture items in the different districts of Macao from 1 to 7 May. Out of the 60 temporary collection points, 50 are located in the Macao Peninsula, 6 are located in Taipa and 4 are located in Coloane. IAM urges the public to dispose of unwanted furniture items properly at the specified time period and locations to avoid affecting environmental hygiene, as well as pedestrian and traffic safety.

CE in Brussels meets Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, and Ambassador of China to Belgium
While in Belgium, the Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, had respective meetings with the Head of the Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU), Ambassador Mr Fu Cong, and the Ambassador of China to Belgium, Mr Cao Zhongming. The two sets of discussions covered how to promote ties between Macao and EU member states, including Belgium, as well as to promote people-to-people exchanges between the places.

UM Faculty of Health Sciences holds symposium on biomedical sciences
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the Seventh Symposium on Biomedical Sciences for Students, Postdoctoral Fellows and Research Assistants. Over 160 researchers participated in the event and had in-depth discussions on topics related to biomedical sciences.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for March 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 126 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in March 2023, an increase of 6 year-on-year. Besides, the total number of available guest rooms grew by 0.7% to 39,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in March rose by 46.3 percentage points year-on-year to 77.0%, with the rates for 5-star (77.2%) and 2-star hotels (80.9%) surging by 50.2 percentage points and 46.2 percentage points respectively.
