Four IFTM Faculty Members Won the Highly Commended Paper Award by the Prestigious Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management
Four faculty members of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM), Dr. Penny Wan, Dr. Xiangping Li, Dr. Virginia Lau, and Prof. Don Dioko, have received the2022 JHTM Highly Commended Paper Award by the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management (JHTM), a leading journal in tourism and hospitality field (SSCI impact factor 7.629 in 2022, rated ‘A’ on the ABDC Journal Quality List). JHTM offers three annual awards to recognise and motivate high quality achievement in published research: one Best Paper Award and two Highly Commended Paper Awards. The editorial team of the JHTM select these papers based on both quantitative analysis (including usage statistics and Scopus citation counts of the published papers) and qualitative assessment of the papers’ contribution to the research field. The study examined how public and private sectors partnered to spur the recovery of the tourism industry from COVID-19. Specifically, it highlighted the crucial roles played by the Macao SAR Government and the crisis leader in tourism recovery. As a part of the research project under the Greater Bay Area Tourism Research Alliance in which IFTM is a founding member, this study was funded byIFTM and supported by theIFTM Tourism Research Centre (ITRC).

Mega Hong Kong delegation visits Macao’s tourism attractions and facilities to attract Hong Kong visitors and develop twin-destination tourism of Hong Kong and Macao
Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) organized a familiarization trip for a mega delegation of over 100 members from Hong Kong’s governmental tourism offices, tourism sector and media to Macao. Besides participation in the work meeting and trade networking during the two-day program (10 and 11 February), the representatives of Hong Kong’s travel agencies and media also visited various tourist attractions, hotels and tourism-related facilities in groups, with the aim to introduce Macao’s latest tourism products to the Hong Kong Market, propel the concerted cultural tourism development of both cities and jointly develop the market of twin-destination travel to Hong Kong and Macao.

Over 10,000 applications received by DSI in the first week after increasing service time
Since this Tuesday (7th February 2023), the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) has extended service hours to 9 p.m. and opens on Saturday and Sunday to accept applications. The arrangement was well-received by citizens. In the first week, over 10,000 applications for documents and certificates were lodged through service counters or electronic channels.

100 Hong Kong delegates visit Macao for meeting and discussions Deepening tourism cooperation between Hong Kong and Macao
Following the familiarization and exchange visit of Hong Kong’s tourism industry leaders to Macao in mid-January, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) again invited a mega delegation of over 100 members representing Hong Kong’s governmental tourism offices, tourism sector and media to Macao for a full two-day familiarization program. The delegation arrived in Macao today (10 February) for a first-hand experience of Macao’s “tourism +” elements. Their visit enhances tourism cooperation and exchange between Hong Kong and Macao with new business opportunities unveiled, contributing to robust tourism rebound in both cities.

UM continues to offer ‘A Day at UM’ campus tours
‘A Day at UM’ is a campus tour campaign launched by the Communications Office of the University of Macau (UM) in 2018 for the public to experience campus life at the university. As the tours have been very well received, the campaign will continue to be held this year. Participants in the campus tours will be guided by well-trained PR Student Ambassadors of UM. The tours are free, and all interested parties, including organisations and individuals, are welcome to join.
