“The 13th Macanese Cooking Competition” & “The 10th Young Macanese Cooking Competition” co-organised by IFTM and MCA

Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) and Macau Culinary Association (MCA) co-organised the 13th Macanese Cooking Competition and the 10th Young Macanese Cooking Competition for university students on 12 November 2022 at IFTM.

Tap Siac Craft Market in autumn inaugurated revealing the charm of cultural and creative brands

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the Tap Siac Craft Market in autumn is held from today to 20 November and from 24 to 27 November for two consecutive weeks at Tap Siac Square, featuring over 100 original products of cultural and creative brands as well as music performances and creative handicraft workshops. All are welcome to participate.




Chinese Academy of Sciences member Mei Hong gives talk at UM on artificial collective intelligence

The University of Macau (UM) today (17 November) held a talk titled ‘Constructing Artificial Collective Intelligence’ as part of the University Lecture Series. Mei Hong, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was the guest speaker. During the talk, he discussed the latest progress in the research of collective intelligence and its application. Combining both virtual and in-person elements, the talk attracted many UM faculty members, students, and members of the general public.


Maritime Silk Road International Cultural Forum concluded With initiatives launched to promote cooperation in the field of cultural heritage of the Maritime Silk Road

Jointly presented by the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government and the National Cultural Heritage Administration of China, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the China Academy of Cultural Heritage, the Guangzhou Secretariat of City Alliance for Maritime Silk Road Heritage Conservation and World Heritage Nomination, and ICOMOS China, and co-organized by the University of Macau and the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, the Maritime Silk Road International Cultural Forum was held on 16 and 17 November. At the closing ceremony, representatives from several countries and regions, international heritage institutions and those from Chinese cities along the Maritime Silk Road jointly launched the “Macao Initiatives for the Protection of the Maritime Silk Road and its Nomination for World Heritage”, further promoting the cooperation and various partnerships in the field of the cultural heritage related to the Maritime Silk Road, as well as facilitating the nomination of the Maritime Silk Road for the UNESCO World Heritage List. The hosting of this Cultural Forum in Macao has emphasized the role of Macao as “a base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist”. Several experts and scholars from home and abroad presented their research results and delivered speeches, which yielded fruitful results.



Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – October 2022

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP209.6 billion (USD25.92 billion) at the end of October 2022. The reserves decreased by 0.4% from the revised value of MOP210.3 billion (USD26.01 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-October 2022 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 84.8% of pataca M2 at end-September 2022.
