Tickets for WTT Champions Macao 2022 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group on sale starting 30 September

WTT Champions Macao 2022 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and World Table Tennis (WTT) and co-organized by the Macau Table Tennis General Association, will be held at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion from 19 to 23 October 2022. The event will feature world’s top players who will showcase their spectacular skills to residents and tourists alike as they engage in a series of breath-taking matches.



External merchandise trade statistics for August 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.37 billion in August 2022, up by 28.3% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP1.16 billion) grew by 31.0%, of which re-exports of Travel goods & handbags and Footwear surged by 157.6% and 102.3% respectively while those of Machines, apparatus & parts dropped by 47.5%. Value of domestic exports (MOP202 million) rose by 14.7%, of which domestic exports of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals soared by 116.1% while those of Copper & articles thereof declined by 10.0%. Meanwhile, total merchandise import went down by 4.4% year-on-year to MOP11.66 billion; imports of Mobile phones, Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products and Perfumes decreased by 58.0%, 32.6% and 29.8% respectively, whereas imports of Gold jewellery, Food & beverages and Watches expanded by 60.7%, 29.1% and 19.5% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in August 2022 totalled MOP10.29 billion.


“Joint Meeting on Prevention and Suppression of Financial Crimes” for Gaming Sector organized by GIF

In response to complex and ever-changing financial crime transactions, the Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) persists to attach great importance to connecting with various domestic sectors and exchanging expertise. GIF remains committed to cooperate and communicate with the gaming sector, and has established a cooperation mechanism in the form of Public Private Partnership. Through the “Joint Meeting on Prevention and Suppression of Financial Crimes”, GIF and the gaming sector collaboratively discussed the AML/CFT risk prevention measures in Macao, so as to jointly prevent and combat financial crimes.


UM’s Doctor of Public Administration programme popular among students

The Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Macau (UM) recently held a ceremony for the second cohort of students of the Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) programme. Launched in 2021, the DPA programme has become very popular among students and the number of applicants has increased by 77 per cent from the previous year. This year, the programme has admitted 28 new students who come from different sectors and work in various positions, including civil servant, corporate executive, administrator of state-owned enterprises, lawyer, and journalist.

UM releases revised macroeconomic forecast for Macao 2022

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Macau Studies and Department of Economics have released the revised version of the Macroeconomic Forecast for Macao 2022. Based on two different scenarios, the research team estimates that economic growth will drop between 26.4% and 29.2%; exports of services will drop between 31.3% and 33.6%; and the current revenue of the Macao SAR government is expected to be between MOP 29.3 billion and MOP 33.3 billion.


Transport and communications statistics for August 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 247,715 as at end-August 2022, up by 0.8% year-on-year; light automobiles (113,373) and heavy motorcycles (106,944) rose by 0.8% and 2.3% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in August grew by 0.8% year-on-year to 1,025 (including 212 electric vehicles), with that of light automobiles rising by 3.9% to 395 (115 of them were electric). In the first eight months of 2022, new registration of motor vehicles fell by 27.2% year-on-year to 6,235. Number of traffic accidents in August dropped by 10.0% year-on-year to 911, with 326 persons injured. From January to August 2022, there were 7,220 traffic accidents, which resulted in 5 deaths and 2,564 injuries.
