CMS holds Annual Conference of Macao Studies in celebration of its 35th anniversary

On the occasion of its 35thanniversary, the Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) of the University of Macau (UM) kicked off the Annual Conference of Macao Studies 2022 today (29 November). Co-organised by the CMS, the Macao Foundation, the local academic journalJournal of Macau Studies, and two SSCI journals, namelyJournal of Contemporary AsiaandChina Information, the event gathered experts from all over the world to share results of Macao studies and contribute insights, providing a fertile ground for the cultivation of local research talent.


Announcement of the selected exhibition proposal for the “18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia – Collateral Event from Macao, China”

Organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), and co-organised by the Architects Association of Macau, the “18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia – Collateral Event from Macao, China”, will feature a team composed of Jimmy Wardhana, Choi Wan Sun, Lin Ian Neng and Tong Tou U, in the Biennale in Venice, Italy, in May 2023. The collateral event, themed “RE-CALIBRATION – In Search of a New Critical Regionalism”, aims at exploring the urban and architectural development of Macao.


Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 3rd quarter 2022

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the third quarter of 2022. Survey coverage for this quarter comprises Manufacturing; Electricity, Gas & Water Supply; Hotels; Restaurants; Child-care and Elderly Care.


External merchandise trade statistics for October 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.16 billion in October 2022, up by 27.8% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP1.03 billion) expanded by 38.9%, of which re-exports of Wine and Articles for casino jumped by 369.8% and 214.0% respectively, while those of Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products declined by 65.3%. Value of domestic exports (MOP131 million) dropped by 21.6%, of which domestic exports of Garments slid by 50.6% while those of Copper & articles thereof grew by 7.0%. Meanwhile, total merchandise import went up by 20.1% year-on-year to MOP12.74 billion; imports of Electronic components, Gold jewellery and Food & beverages surged by 188.4%, 117.3% and 74.0% respectively, whereas imports of Articles for casino and Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products fell by 37.5% and 22.4% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in October 2022 totalled MOP11.58 billion.


Presentation of proof of a negative RAT or NAT result is required before entering the CCAC

Given that there have been some Covid-19 cases tested positive in Macao lately, the CCAC said that, in order to prevent the spread of the epidemic and ensure the normal operation of the CCAC, from now until 3rd December, whoever enters its headquarters and branch offices must present a negative result of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on the day of entering or proof of a negative result of Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) that remains valid within 24 hours after the day of specimen collection. Those who cannot present the aforesaid result will be required to do a RAT on the spot and may only be allowed to enter the aforesaid premises if the result is negative.


Philatelic Gifts Festive Season Sale

To welcome the festive season in winter, the following 40 designated philatelic products with special discounts will be offered to philatelists from the period of 1st December 2022 to 28th February 2023 at the Philatelic Shop of General Post Office, Red Market Post Office, Carmo Post Office and Communications Museum Shop.


Ruins of St. Paul’s closed temporarily to the public from 30 November to 19 December due to installation of an exhibition

Due to the mounting of an exhibition at the Ruins of St. Paul’s and in order to ensure the public safety and meet the needs of the works, the monument’s site (including the Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt) will be temporarily closed to the public from 30 November (Wednesday) to 19 December (Monday).
